The smell of new paperbacks is intoxicating!
The build-up of circling what you wanted in the little paper catalogs. Hnnng.

Not books in general. But Scholastic book fairs? Agreed. I’ve never been more engorged.

My mama was an elementary school teacher and somehow got a tip that we could ‘work’ at the local Scholastic warehouse over the summer and get paid in credit we could use on anything in the warehouse. My family couldn’t afford for all 3 of us to get more than $10/each to spend at the book fairs, so we were soooo excited to have this opportunity. It was a fucking dream come true - we got so many cool books.

Modern day versions just don’t compare. It used to be a fucking event. Now you like walk into a small room or maybe a library that just has things stacked on top of the shelves it’s not exciting it’s dull and sanitized of color

I can’t say that I’ve been to a book fair since I was a child, but could it just be that you grew up?

I suppose it could be. But that was too depressing to think about

Why did these temporarily convert me from being a closeted book nerd into the most flaming obnoxious book nerd?

It was your pride month.

Fuck yeah! High!

The book fair was just fun, even if you weren’t that avid a reader. Like buying new school supplies even though it’s just for school, it was still fun to do.
notreallyhere@lemmy.world 4 days ago
why not both?
Venus_Ziegenfalle@feddit.org 3 days ago
The picture makes me want to try both at the same time

Yeah like, can we do a scholastic book fair for adults where we’re allowed to be high?

I was today years old when I learn that Scholastic are the ones who publish:
Cliffod the Big Red Dog Goosebumps The Magic School Bus The Babysitters Club

That they managed to create an actual real feeling of excitement around books and followed through with exciting fun books is actually really impressive.
