“Loops is a short video sharing platform.”
Yerbouti@sh.itjust.works 2 months ago
Is it like some FOSS Tiktok alternative?
dontsayaword@piefed.social 2 months ago
Precisely
Damage@feddit.it 2 months ago
No clue, I just followed a couple of links deep and found that description. I guess TikTok/ Vine.

This is great! I may get back into this. Does anyone know if there is a directory of instances?
0_0@sopuli.xyz 2 months ago
https://fedidb.com/software/loops is the only one I found so far
gedaliyah@lemmy.world 2 months ago
Fantastic. Looks like there are a few that people have spun up. Thanks!

For anyone else who was thinking of starting an instance, local storage is still a no-go right now
S3-Compatible Storage Required Currently, Loops requires an S3-compatible filesystem (like AWS S3, MinIO, or DigitalOcean Spaces) for avatar and video storage. Support for local storage is on the way but is not yet implemented. Please ensure you have S3 credentials ready before proceeding.
smiletolerantly@awful.systems 2 months ago
To be fair, you can simply selfhost MinIO.
avidamoeba@lemmy.ca 2 months ago
Yeah, I wouldn’t bother implementing local storage if I could easily roll a local S3 in the docker-compose.yaml.
LedgeDrop@lemmy.zip 2 months ago
Cloudflare provides 10 GB of free (forever) S3 compatible storage too.
MrQuallzin@lemmy.world 2 months ago
Good to know, thank you! I haven’t touched S3 storage yet in my self hosting journey

Can people even setup their own Loops instance yet?
GeraltvonNVIDIA@lemmy.ml 2 months ago
I have Seen a post that it should be able by now, yeah.

blazeknave@lemmy.world 2 months ago
Any fellow kickstarters round these parts?? 👋
Dreaming_Novaling@lemmy.zip 2 months ago
I donated sometime during the big fundraiser in January or so. It took a while but they did release server code a few months ago, and it’s nice to see that it’ll federate with other services soon.
ByteMe@lemmy.world 2 months ago
Elaborate:))

We’re here.
danc4498@lemmy.world 2 months ago
Are there apps for this yet?
CallMeAnAI@lemmy.world 2 months ago
There is one you have to sign up for on their site. I’m assuming it’ll be GA shortly.
Nima@leminal.space 2 months ago
did they fix the feed and algorithm issues yet? or is it still doing the thing where it shows you the same feed every time you open the app.
Tune@lemmy.today 2 months ago
Loops doesn’t have an algorithm, it just shows you the most recent videos uploaded to Loops.
Nima@leminal.space 2 months ago
ahhh well. hopefully that changes to give a bit more usability. but thank you. good to know.
Dequei@piefed.social 2 months ago
Android app is the next thing. They are active on Discord.
crumbguzzler5000@feddit.org 2 months ago
I’m sure it still has a ways to go and adoption is key but this just sounds like what the internet honestly needs to fundamentally exist
ByteMe@lemmy.world 2 months ago
I agree. For example there are some groups on fb I would like to be a part of but I hate the fact that I have to have a fb account
Cassanderer@thelemmy.club 2 months ago
Fb does not work from my phone, it gets glitchier every year. They are too busy on their stupid metaverse and counting their money to fix those glitches apparently.
mrdown@lemmy.world 2 months ago
Does that mean it has full portsbility and can transfer sll uploads to a new instances
