Thought I had seen the dumbest shit in my city already, but apparently not. They were going the same way this morning so it was staring at me half of the way to work.

That driver is everything bad about the USA all rolled into one. Our would would be 1000x better if they were no longer part of it. Too bad they are the ones who randomly kill people they don’t agree with, so they have a feeling of invincibility and so it’s a recursive loop where they only increase in how much of a piece of shit they are. Fear keeps people in check.

Pay to lift truck so you can pay to get an extension that makes your tow kit reach where it needed. Will it work, sure. Will it put torque on the frame in a way it wasn’t meant to, also sure. Need to get bags of dirt/cement or any other purpose of having a truck bed, now it’s going to be a pain in the ass to get them in and out. Throw in the shortened lifespan of the vehicle/higher maintenance cost and it makes complete sense to do it.

The massive offset on those wheels are an even bigger issue, messes up handling and ruins the ball joints and wheel bearings, while making it more emdangerous for cyclists and pedestrians and throwing stones in the air for anyone unfortunate enough to be near that thing in motion.

Don’t forget the larger wheel with low profile tires extended out causes more strain on the suspension, wheel bearings and steering components because of the extra unsprung weight. Just think of holding a bike wheel while spinning it, swaying it side to side and the holding it out further. The larger rotating mass and wider wheels makes the steering heavier, causes the car to track, changed the scrub radius… More I can’t think off.

I have yet to hear a real argument for lifting a truck whilst keeping the straight axle. The very, verrry marginal clearance gains for approach/departure angle while off-roading can usually be better achieved with a bumper delete instead, which doesn’t ruin the driving performance or increase your chance of rollovers. And instead of thousands spent upfront and extra maintenance cost later, removing parts is free.
Now, put some double wishbones and universal joints, that’s an immediately justifiable capability to pursue. But these mall crawlers with the magic pop-out steps are for emotionally stunted manchildren who are transparently buying into someone else’s idea of what a man is.
