If you’re a Paramount Plus subscriber, you can go watch Boimler of Lower Decks geek out over the cast of Strange New Worlds right now.
Thanks for posting this. My wife and I would have waited until Thursday to watch it if I hadn’t seen this here.

Not to be one of those people that yaps on about that aggregator site that makes money leaching off of content provided and moderated by users or anything, but this would be my first instance of hopping onto something posted to the Fediverse that was unexpected and awesome and so much fun!
I'd have dully waited until Thursday, too.
Holy shit, thank you!
Definitely a treat! You're welcome!
I love how, in the end, Boimler did influence the future timeline, but he did it in a really wholesome way.
Surprised how much the VO’s actually look like their characters, that’s actually pretty cool.
My suspicion since even before the crossover was announced was that they designed the characters to look like the VAs in case they had the opportunity for cameo appearances down the line.
This show was great, this season is amazing.
HYPE
It was so hyped for so long. I was beginning to fear that it couldn't possibly live up to expectations.
I was pleasantly surprised.
How important is it that I see Lower Decks first? I keep hearing good things about it, and I will get to it eventually, but I’m not familiar with it at all beyond the premise.
@Fuzzy_Dunlop
It's more like if you find the Lower Decks characters in the crossover amusing, then you'd probably enjoy Lower Decks, but the episode isn't written in a way that you have to know that show to enjoy it.
Haven’t seen it so I can’t say for sure, but I would at least watch a few episodes to get to know the characters. You may end up getting hooked and binging it, it’s a great show.
I’d also like to know if there are specific Lower Decks episode(s) that should be watched first to fully appreciate the crossover.
Almost every anachronistic reference the Lower Decks characters make are references you’d catch from DS9, TNG, or Enterprise. You probably won’t enjoy the campy silliness as much as fans of Lower Decks, but it’s a great episode regardless of the crossover.
None. If you haven’t watched it it’ll make you watch it
This episode was amazing.
Agreed, it was so much fun!
I’m locking this because it’s turning into an episode discussion, and we already have one of those.
That was absolutely fantastic!
Geez, go watch lower decks.
Lower decks is pretty good. Although like all trek, the first season takes a few episodes to get its pacing right.
This season has been great, but I have been hanging for this episode!!
Since it came out early, does that mean there will be no new episode this coming Thursday, or will the season end earlier than it was going to?
It appears that episode 8 will drop next week given Subspace Rhapsody, episode 9, is announced for August 3rd.
Which does make for an earlier end to the season m.
That’s awesome!
This is one of the rare times that I wish we had Star Trek on Paramount+ in Canada.
I guess we’ll just have to wait until Thursday.
FWIW, "this episode is live on Crave," someone noted at: https://startrek.website/post/460864
Wow, thanks!
We’ve got CTV Sci-fi channel which means our other Trek content won’t be vanishing in August.
Who knows, perhaps CTV will add it ‘On Demand’ early.
Wholesome, fuzzy and (somewhat) plausible, Worf's Honor! :)
I loved that they drew the intro!
Kudos, kudos, kudos.
I don’t suppose anyone knows how I can watch it in Japan without making like an Orion?
As this episode will remind you, it’s rude to assume all Orions are pirates.
Some of them haven’t been pirates for at least five years!
How important is it that I see Lower Decks first? I keep hearing good things about it, and I will get to it eventually, but I know very little behind its premise.
Boimler is ambitious but kind of clumsy and awkward and stickler for rules (despite the boimler rule). Mariner is basically Ferris Bueller with the mouth of a sailor until her friends/family are in danger and then she's MacGuyver/007. (I also just realized I'm dating myself a lot of those references and I hope they still work.) The show is definitely written by fans of star trek that also are comfortable enough to poke fun at the source material.
Edit: that's probably enough to enjoy it, but I haven't seen it yet so don't know if they reference any lower decks story arcs heavily.
Let me help you out: Boimler is a Feliz, and Mariner is an Oscar.
Now can someone explain all four LD characters based on their MAS*H counterparts? I want to make the joke but I’m literally not old enough to.
You don’t need to. It might even help you figure out if you’d like Lower Decks.
I haven't watched past S2 of Lower Decks, but if you like slapstick humor busting at the seems with fanservice and callbacks then you might like it.
Jack Quaid plays Jack Quaid.
0% important. I haven't gotten around to Lower Decks yet and I thought the episode was fantastic.
I haven't seen the episode so take that into consideration, but probably not very. Lower decks hasn't broken that much new ground

Everyone here saying they haven’t watched lower decks needs to just go watch lower decks.

And what of us who need more Lower Decks?! 😭💀

There is a Lower Decks comic series with the same art style. You could read those.
