My wife had an iPhone XR. She loved it. It was all she needed. However it was only 64 GB and she ran out of storage. If it had an expandable storage option she would still be using it. Your comment is daft.
- Comment on Concerns Raised Over Bitwarden Moving Further Away From Open-Source 4 weeks ago:
The downside to Keepass is it is not self hosted, as in it’s designed to run locally per device. Yes, you can put the database file on a network and have multiple clients from different operating systems access the database, but you will end up with collisions and database issues. Ask me how I know.
Running cross platform Keepass (and it’s various forks) is absolutely doable, but it is not as seemless as BitWarden. I’m running self hosted VaultWarden and I’m hoping to run it for a long time as it’s much easier than Keepass.

The article mentions this is happening on the TV Youtube app. You’re running Firefox on your Android TV?
- Comment on Google dropping ublock origin represents a flawless David vs Goliath victory for its developer 2 months ago:
There are already other open source forks of Firefox that are community driven and maintained without employees or a for profit organization behind them. The obvious example is LibreWolf which describes itself as “a custom and independent version of Firefox, with the primary goals of privacy, security and user freedom”. There’s no argument that maintaining a web browser is currently complex and needs to make security first decisions, but LibreWolf as an example shows us that it is not only possible but I argue proves it will continue even if Firefox as we know it goes away.
- Comment on Google dropping ublock origin represents a flawless David vs Goliath victory for its developer 3 months ago:
You may want to educate yourself before spreading unnecessary FUD. Firefox is free and open source, and always has been. There’s no danger in Firefox becoming a paid browser because even if they tried, it would just be forked and maintained by another community or group.
Mozilla does have a for-profit arm called the Mozilla Corporation, and they manage the money received from Google and others. But that doesn’t mean Firefox is going to become paid even if Google gets broken up by the antitrust efforts of the US government.

Her account was likely compromised. It wouldn’t be possible to say how without more info. Could have been that her password was hacked (guessed), or could have been that her session was cookie hijacked where they wouldn’t have had to exploit the password.
I don’t know if IG has 2 factor authentication, but that could be something to look into. Also ensure the new password is not dictionary based. Use a password manager like bitwarden.

it’s not supposed to be That’s the issue. That might be fine for you, but for others we would like it to be. The limitation isn’t hardware, so let the users decide whether they want it to be more than a big iPhone.
- Comment on Tube archivist + Jellyfin. Anyone have luck getting thumbnails and titles working? 6 months ago:
Thanks for the reply. I guess I haven’t had that happen to me yet with videos I’m looking for again having gone private.
I’m also not interested in crappy, privacy-invading, ad-shoving YouTube apps, which is why I mentioned SmartTube. In case you haven’t heard of it, it’s FOSS and has AdBlock & SponsorBlock integrated. It’s designed for TV use. If Tube Archivist fits your need though, that’s great.

I’m genuinely curious: do you re-watch enough YT videos that you need to archive your subscriptions? Or have I misunderstood the use of the plugin? I’m using SmartTube for TV YT content and it’s fantastic.

- Comment on This Windows tool makes it super easy to debloat and cut down ads on your Android TV 9 months ago:
I have this blocked with Blokada locally on my Shield and can confirm it works great. I also prefer the stock launcher just without all the ad junk.
I recently bought a TCL TV with Android TV and I was hoping this trick would work with it but it didn’t. So if anyone knows how to make the TCL Android TV launcher interface “stock” and stay that way feel free to point it out.

There is no reason why this shouldn’t be on GitHub since it’s likely just a bunch of ADB commands anyway. In the Reddit thread the author repeatedly refused to acknowledge or address the calls to make the tool open source. No thanks, seems too shady to me.

- Comment on Some Beeper users say Apple banned their Macs from iMessage 10 months ago:
I don’t think anyone here is blaming the users, the comments are saying they shouldn’t be surprised.
Users blatantly violate TOS > company bans account > shocked Pikachu face
I agree with the above commenter that they should have expected this. I remember watching SnazzyLabs video about Beeper when it was about to come out, and the video essentially said ‘people have been doing this for awhile, I don’t think Apple will care about Beeper’ and I thought oh yes they will.
Do I think Apple is in the right here? No. Am I surprised they’re taking this action? Also no.

If you want to access your KeePass safe from multiple devices (phone, tablet, PC, etc), you have to host it somewhere.

If you’re brave enough to host your own: KeePass XC. If not, Bitwarden.

We don’t know yet, but the rumor mill says the setting will be geo locked. So probably not.
- Comment on iOS 17.2 hints at Apple moving towards letting users sideload apps from outside the App Store 1 year ago:
For everyone rejoicing in this thread, there’s no way Apple will allow this outside the EU. From the article:
We also found references to a region lock in this API, which suggests that Apple could restrict it to specific countries. This wouldn’t make sense for MDM solutions, but it does make sense for enabling sideloading in particular countries only when required by authorities – such as in the European Union.
I want side loading as much as the next guy, but Apple will only do the bare minimum to appease the EU regulations. Suck for those of us outside the EU.

It’s the enshitification of it all. They hike prices while removing features year after year. Corporate greed is never enough.
- Comment on YouTube's plan backfires, people are installing better ad blockers 1 year ago:
they make money from harvesting your data then showing you ads based on that data
That’s part of it, yes. But they can also sell ad companies demographic data - males aged 25-44 clicked on this or looked at that for example.
Google probably makes more like $50 per user per year on average
I highly doubt the number is that low.
- Comment on YouTube's plan backfires, people are installing better ad blockers 1 year ago:
they’ve got to make money somehow
But they have been, and for years. All the years I’ve run a smartphone Google has harvested and profited from my data. From Gmail to Chrome (before I switched) to Maps - they have profited from people’s data at scale. So the argument that they need to make money somehow falls flat for me.
Also, if they charged like $2 a year to block ads, plenty of people would buy it. But like most things lately, the enshitification of our user experience continues. It’s not enough for companies like Google to “make money” - it’s never enough and their greed has no boundaries.
That’s why you see people like us pushing back - enough is enough.
