- Comment on Meta whistleblower Sarah Wynn-Williams says company targeted ads at teens based on their ‘emotional state’ 1 week ago:
It is absolutely baffling that people don’t realize that people are the product. I’ve had some folks tell me that they understand and “don’t care” because the service is “free” or whatever, but then they get angry and freaked out when the platform knows exactly what they’re thinking, or at least seems to know.
There’s definitely a deficit in understanding and education on what corporate social media really does.

My partner and I have been ogling much of their wares for the last year or so. I could easily spend $3,000 on the website (you know, if I had $3,000 to blow on clothes).
- Comment on Jellyfin is not just good... but *better* than Plex now?! 1 month ago:
Nope, I still use Emby myself. Although I’m in the process of switching to Jellyfin I think. I have it running separately to sort of evaluate it. Jellyfin was a fork of Emby, so there are a lot of similarities.

I’ve had Infuse Pro for about 6 years and it has been an absolutely perfect app for me. I’ve used it across many different iterations of home media servers (Emby, Jellyfin, NFS, SMB, etc…)
If you use Apple devices it’s the best way to go.

Great video, thanks for posting! This guy articulated a lot of thoughts about algorithmic recommendations that I’ve never been quite able to form into coherent thoughts myself. I definitely understand why I decided to go all in with the fediverse or social web half a decade ago or so now.

That’s how I do it too, but after reading your “hand in the blob” comment, perhaps I’ll start wearing gloves.

That’s a really cool use for snac! It’s perfect for something so straightforward and uses so little resources that I would imagine if you eventually have the entire planets weather forecasts being published it would still only use a tiny amount of bandwidth and power!

It really is great! The amount of innovation and creativity in regard to the Fediverse is amazing. Although Bluesky seems to be blowing up big right now, I’m actually hopeful that it will motivate those of us within the ActivityPub realm to create even more and it seems to already be happening.
I’d love to see an easier path of entry to Lemmy as well. “Community Packs” would be a great way to help with that!

As soon as someone that is similar to most people in my life sees the words “.csv” and “hamburger menu” their eyes will glaze over and they’ll bounce.
Plus there’s step number 4 that I know will scare folks away…
Select Import and Export >>> Import >>> Import type dropdown: “Lists” (NOT “Following list”) >>> Verify that ‘Merge’ is selected >>> Browse >>> Select “[file name] – list.csv” >>> Upload >>> Confirm

The Pixelfed developer is actively working to get a streamlined solution for Starter Packs out for all kinds of ActivityPub servers that will use existing APIs and methods that already exist within the protocol. He mentioned it should be available in beta in a day or two.

While I appreciate the idea, that is far too complicated for the average user.

Well that’s just super neat! I will absolutely be giving it a go sometime soon. Thanks for sharing and for building!

That is a fantastically odd line of action figures!

It’s crazy to me that a company can just abandon hundreds (or thousands?) of 700 pound machines all over the place like this. I feel like there should be some kind of court order for the person last in charge of the company to drive the fuck around the country and clean up their mess.
