Literally anywhere that isn’t lemmygrad or hexbear will usually be better. You could go to an instance with open sign up until you find somewhere else, but they tend to house a lot of closeted reactionaries, I assume because those people like the anonymity. Personally I just looked up instances to see which ones I liked. They’ll have a description of who they are and if sign ups require an application you just say why you want to join their instance. It’s not a huge deal really.

My 2 cents is lemmy.zip. it’s the most like the lost treasure that was lemm.ee. it leaves a lot of censoring up to the user
ikidd@lemmy.world 1 day ago
Might want to consider piefed instances as well, it’s a fediverse front-end not developed by the weaklings that decided to censor your innocuous words.
I should do that too…

I went to Mander, since .ml is blocked in China.
davidagain@lemmy.world 17 hours ago
.ml is blocked in China? Wild.
Alcoholicorn@mander.xyz 16 hours ago
IKR. I want to know what kind of spicy take got it blocked.
Anivia@feddit.org 11 hours ago
Pretty sure China would block all lemmy instances they knew of, the smaller ones just flew under the radar.
realitista@lemmus.org 1 day ago
Literally any non-ml instance would be a way better choice. Also avoid hexbear. The rest are pretty solid. I’m happy with speed of Lemmus.org, but lemmy.world worked fine for me too.
jballs@sh.itjust.works 1 day ago
sh.itjust.works is awesome. The mods are cool as shit, and as you can tell from the name, there’s no BS censorship.
brbposting@sh.itjust.works 6 hours ago
@nukeforyou2@lemmy.ml don’t tell anybody* but The Dude (admin) somehow keeps this place blazingly fast, super fast updates, the whole enchilada
99% renewable energy powered too apparently if you’re into that
Lazy linkin’ it just in case too sh.itjust.works/signup
*everybody excepted

I’m a refugee from lemm.ee and I’ve been enjoying piefed.zip and the .zip lemmy instance
Chose this one since I’ve heard (and from what I’ve seen) that like lemm.ee, the .zip instances only block the REALLY problematic stuff NSFL and illegal content, leaving it to the user to fill their own block lists rather than defederating
dabster291@lemmy.zip 1 day ago
join-lemmy.org has a list of joinable servers, there’s also fedidb.com/software/lemmy

The level of shit .ml, lemmygrad and hexbear users receive for no good reason leaves me always speechless.
You shouldn’t say b.itch in person, we don’t teach to kids to say it, why is it crazy to moderate them?
Klear@lemmy.world 1 day ago
I just tagged you as “bitch”, you bitch.
brbposting@sh.itjust.works 6 hours ago
Word censorship is ridiculous for sure
I mean is this the damn internet or not!
That said would kindly request a lil introspection on this comment
PastaCannon@lemmy.ml 1 day ago
You can tag me whatever makes your ego feel better. I guess everything goes (including insults) but discuss the topic and reply the questions. Very brave bro. (͡•_ ͡• )
Vespair@lemmy.zip 19 hours ago
I actually teach the kids in my life that intent is more important than “magic naughty words,” so they can say bitch all they want so long as they aren’t being hateful. So maybe starting from the assumption that the status quo is reasonable and has merit isn’t the smartest idea?

Come over to lemmy.zip!
Badabinski@kbin.earth 1 day ago
Anywhere but lemmygrad or hexbear, really. lemmy.dbzer0.com, lemmy.world, lemmy.zip, or lemmy.blahaj.zone are all good ones. I'm quite partial to kbin.earth (although you'd need a different app), and there's also piefed instances.
Anivia@feddit.org 11 hours ago
Or one of the regional ones (feddit.org for german speaking countries for example)
Someonelol@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 day ago
Dbzer0 is pretty solid. Never had any issues with the admins, they post pro piracy shit, and they even ask for your input before implementing rule changes. It’s pretty comfortable and meets my values well enough.
bier@feddit.nl 10 hours ago
I’m on feddit.nl do they censor shit or have other issues I should know about?
Badabinski@kbin.earth 10 hours ago
Idk, they're probably fine. There are SO many instances out there nowadays, and I'd guess most of them are fine.
outhouseperilous@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 day ago
Not .world. Just as bad but zios.
