almar_quigley@lemmy.world 6 days agoWhy would you want to buy a vehicle just because your kid likes it?

If my parents had bought a car I thought was cool back in the 90s it would have been Sgt. Slaughters Warthog from GI Joe or a Dodge Viper.

Duuuuuuuude if my dad bought a Viper, I would have diiiiiiiied.

Because it’s a fucking Cybertruck lol… In nearly any other situation, I would say you’re right. Take the kid’s choice into consideration, but then maybe ask if they have a second favorite car.

His answer is no. I asked him why he loves it. He loves that it’s different from anything on the road. Since he has a rare disorder, he feels that he is also different. He can relate to the car more. Can’t argue with that.

My life revolves around my kid. So ya. If it makes him happy to be in a car he loves and it fits the families needs, then why wouldn’t I?

…because you’re an adult who sees the bigger picture and don’t have the lens of an 8 year old?
jaschen@lemm.ee 6 days ago
I’m an adult that will do anything to make my kid happy. Maybe you don’t understand that is the bigger picture.

Hotwheels is a thing.
I wanted a Ferrari growing up, and my dad wasn’t an idiot.

Buy a real car, then weld some sheet metal panels to it. It will be 10x safer for your kid and they won’t know the difference.

Step 1: Buy metal. Step 2: learn to weld. Step 3: nahhhh.
