Thanks! I haven’t heard of the author or series so I’m pretty stoked to give it a try.

I’ve read it. While I appreciate it as a whole, and really like a good bit of it, I found enough of it to be a slog that I only recommend it to people who already read fantasy. Do you have any other recommendations in the same vein?

Maybe the whole corporate internet. Unless we’re forced into aol style portals by the death of net neutrality i think most of the lemmy user base will be fine. Shout-out to /c/self selfhosted for those looking to get ahead of the permission gate.

MaybeI’m wrong but I think you might oxidize all your produce faster. I do think you should try though.

They use potable water and they use evaporative cooling.

- Comment on AI chatbots are becoming popular alternatives to therapy. But they may worsen mental health crises, experts warn 4 days ago:
This is sad to me. When I was younger and would get lonely enough I’d go to a bar and talk to strangers. When I was a little bit older I would just post on social. Neither of those things are particularly useful or productive but they at least involved other people. I’m glad I wasn’t being targeted with ads about how great AI is and reading articles about its effectiveness (nyt [i think] had one in the last few days.) I’m an introverted person and it used to take a good bit of discomfort to get me out and talking to people. If I had something that provided a good enough simulacrum of social contact without the anxieties and weirdness that can come from talking to strangers I think my life would be very different. It’s important to spread awareness of the dangers of robosexuality

To me woodwinds and brass seem harder than other instruments. If it were me starting over again I would pick Piano or guitar. There are lots of resources to learn and you can keep trying methods until up find one that clicks with you. Use a metronome, backing tracks, play your scales and practice in time.

I had a friend in hs with a pretty identical family situation (in the early 2000s) She was in her 20s for her first kid.

Check out the work of Luca Guadagnino. Very male gaze on male gays. Daniel Craig included.

10 10 3 2 1. Bobwehadababyitsaboy. I forgot about those ads. They were super bowl ad popular in my memory.

It depends on where you live. I lived in a rural area so the nearest local isp was far enough away that it cost. The cds and floppies that constantly came in the mail didn’t charge though. There were a bunch of those free services and ad supported isps. I had dial up for a long time and watched the business model go from portal style sandbox like AOL to literal "all internet is free if you keep this ad open. " towards the end before I left for college.

Dark Reader for edge is on here but the Firefox one isn’t listed so I’m good there i guess? Super sad i had to uninstall my cat fact extensions. It was nice to have instant access to cat facts in the menu bar.

Lol, I see how it reads like wes Anderson I’ve never thought of it that way. I was definitely less clever and not as perfectly dressed. At the time it felt more like something from Richard Linklater.

I was riding a bus once, which was rare at the time as I usually took the street car, and i had taken some acid earlier and was coming back from a 4ish mile walk from the river to a flag store and at the bus stop this guy starts talking and showing me the slingshot he has. He’s telling me all about the different kinds of slingshot and some weird stuff too but the whole time be is shooting dried beans across the street. He’s like a sniper. He’s calling out letters on signs across the street and just nailing them without breaking conversational stride. The bus came and I got on and he didn’t. He wasn’t even waiting for a bus, he was just excited about the slingshot I guess.
After I got on the bus I sat in a double seat by myself and my friends took similar positions. A lady got on at the next stop and sat next to me. She was a French expat who, at the advice of her psychiatrist, was riding the bus and practicing having conversations with people. She told me all that immediately upon sitting down. Then we had a pretty normal conversation for what felt like forever but could only have been 15 minutes.

Yeah, my experience jibes with that too. I wear sunscreen everyday and I feel like I’m pretty conscientious but I end up getting red by the end of the day often. The problem with it, i find, is that it’s time consuming to do one’s exposed skin properly or it involves another person. I’m either working or recreating outside so I know I miss applications due to impatience and inattention. I switched to pants, hats, and long sleeves for outdoor living the past decade or so and it’s a huge improvement. Just sweatier.
