- Comment on 4 or more hours of daily screen time linked to more anxiety and depression in teens, data shows 3 weeks ago:
My phone for today says 3 hours and i haven’t watched any TV. So me I guess. Yesterday said 3.5 but I watched part of a baseball game so it probably totaled 4.5. I think most days I’d be under four hours of total screen time. I’d be under everyday for sure if we excepted reading. Moonreader+ has 2 of my three hours. The rest is feed reader and jerboa.
- Comment on Is it okay to take drugs to make yourself a better person? Does it make a difference if "better" is mental or if it's physical? 3 weeks ago:
It just improves the ability to focus. It doesn’t really make one focus on the right thing. Also, the alteration in abilities isn’t free. The good effects of any drug are weighed against the side effects. There is always an opportunity cost to any drug. The poster above you was right on with his steroid comparison.

Firefox for Android. Wouldn’t load the list of beaches for me until I turned off shelter. Just kept reloading whatever frame is beneath the text input.

I’ve used that website in the past with no problem but a heads up I had to turn on js and off antifingerprinting to get it to load this time. For all those more security conscious than I
- Comment on Support local bands 3 weeks ago:
I used to love big arena shows until I saw a famous band do a three night stand at a small bar/club style venue. After that, I started going to shows of bands/performers I hadn’t heard of. Changing how I thought of shows, where before I thought of it as an event like going to see a theatre play, to thinking about them similarly to how I’d think of going to the movie theater made the whole live scene seem more accessible and more fun. I hope when my kids are older we can start going to more shows again.
I read an article that said being in a band is less appealing to kids these days and that being an influencer is more popular than wanting to be a Rockstar. I hope it’s just “old man yells at clouds” because I feel like there is always room for more local acts. Support your neighbors, go dance!

Cool. How old was your kid when they could start using the design program well? It never occurred to me in all the years I’ve known about and decided I didn’t want a 3d printer that I could make stuff with the kids.
- Comment on My daughter made a planter for her cactus 4 weeks ago:
Very cool! Planning, executing and then getting to use something one made is a great feeling and cool for kids! Are you recycling plastics into filament or can you buy it recycled?
- Comment on Solid-state batteries could power the next generation of wearable tech 1 month ago:
To give some perspective on this, I’ve lived for the last three months in a camper with a DC fridge. 1350 watt battery. The rtg at 110w/hr would keep my battery charged. 50 watt tv, 72 watt fridge, 24 watt starlink plus lights and waterpump. It would be just enough for me to live on I’d say.

South America has the equivalent level of technology to wherever you come from so no. You wouldn’t be different enough to change any civilizational paradigms. For a less strawmanny example, if you moved to another country tomorrow and revealed the secrets to clean, unlimited power and used techniques and methods to do so that were far outside of our current understanding of physics then maybe you would be.
- Comment on We lost Keanu 1 month ago:
Yes, if those people are technologically so advanced as to be indistinguishable from wizards. In Graham Hancocks mythology, these people brought the secrets of agriculture and advanced maths to indigenous peoples around the world. A lot of his evidence for this comes from ancient religious texts and artifacts. So, if these people are so advanced that they are worshiped by the natives I think it’s fair to say he is describing a super race.

The survivors of the cataclysm that brought their advanced knowledge to the ancient peoples is the super race.

Dicaprio hasn’t been a role model for me since I saw him in basketball diaries and spent the next few years trying to be just like Jim Carroll. Never again Leo. Never again.

I think you’re misunderstanding the word “order.” They mean order like “Dr’s Orders” not like the Dr is generating requests to the drug warehouse.
- Comment on Pager Lives Again Thanks To Python And Mastodon 8 months ago:
Pagers also work even in parts of the hospital that cell phones don’t for whatever reason. At least last time I had a hospital pager a few years ago. Now a lot of places use commercial solutions like vocera that also work everywhere and allow two way voice comms.
- Comment on AI hiring tools may be filtering out the best job applicants 8 months ago:
I had a text message screening after applying to a job the other day. I used the keywords and got through the ai I guess and then answered text message questions for a while. I’d worked for this company before and last time that first round screening was done by a person over the phone. No real point just my experience being back in the job market after 8 years.

I just tried to reproduce your comment. Google home set a timer for me and play/paused my TV (chromecast with google tv) I don’t have streaming music to test it on. I do agree that the quality of Google home has gotten terrible though. It takes a lot more prompting to do simple things and has stopped some scheduling tasks as far as I can tell.

- Comment on Fubo CEO 'Horrified' and 'Sad' About Peacock-Exclusive NFL Games | Cord Cutters News 9 months ago:
Fubo is expensive but has almost every sport I want to watch. My in laws have it and it beats the premium cable packages for cost and convenience. Sorry to sound like an ad but if people have only seen fubo’s ads they might not realize that this is a streaming service that can be worth the money if you like all sports all the time. Fuck the peacock exclusive. Fuck the prime exclusive. Fuck the apple TV exclusive. Sports should be easy to watch!
