- Comment on How do I access my services from outside? 6 days ago:
Depends I just have a proxy and open port 443. Its not wide open but open enough that others can use it. I geo block have IP lists filter through it and suricata. Or use a VPN if others don’t need access.

I never for that. Why would countries become so dependent on another one. Like the west would crumple rich now if America vanished.

I just do hairpin NAT sure people well say not the best but it just works and don’t have to maintain a separate DNS server.

I ripped to flacs not because I can hear a difference but I can reencode to any format I want and never have to rip again.

What is the mkv going to do? It is not a executable format.
- Comment on DVDs and public transit: Boycott drives people to ditch Big Tech to protest ICE 2 weeks ago:
I’d say it is the opposite. DVDs can stop being made.

YouTube lose would be a blow. All the knowledge there that would be lost is massive. And nobody is going to replace it.
- Comment on Building OpenWatch: an open-source alternative to YouTube 3 weeks ago:
Doesn’t matter there we’ll never be a replacement for YouTube the cost is to great. Think of the storage they barely remove videos they just stay up there.
- Comment on Getting worn out with all these docker images and CLI hosted apps 4 weeks ago:
Why expose any ports at all. Just use reverse proxy and expose that port and all the others just happen internally.
- Comment on Installing **self-hostable** services on a cloud server isn't self-hosting ??? 4 weeks ago:
I mean by definition it isn’t self hosting as someone else is hosting the service for you.
- Comment on Installing **self-hostable** services on a cloud server isn't self-hosting ??? 4 weeks ago:
I’d say it isn’t self hosted. Same as companies doing the same not calling it on prem. No should discussions be allowed here yes as long as it isn’t about the hosting provider.
- Comment on Installing **self-hostable** services on a cloud server isn't self-hosting ??? 4 weeks ago:
Host can take your data and shut you down. Not SELF hosted. Same as business not calling it on PREM hosting when they do the same.

Your hosting but not self hosting.

Because the stock market doesn’t care about reality. It is just a bunch of rich guys trading money between each other, and they have enough to not need us.

- Comment on Ring Cameras Join Flock and Amazon to Now Create Direct Data Access for ICE 5 weeks ago:
Eh my cameras sit local and only get looked at when I am either board and want to do some frigate plus uploads or if something happens. Besides looking where delivery drivers have left packages I have only had one incident.
- Comment on A post-American, enshittification-resistant internet 1 month ago:
Oh it definatly is a technology problem though. There well never be a federated Youtube for instance. Think about that the storage that Google uses since videos are not really deleted, and the bandwidth to server that much video. It doens’t really scale with federation.
