The valve index has lower ppd though (quest 2 has 17 ppd, index has 14 ppd). The index controllers aren’t as precise at gripping things and they don’t work with sweat on them.
Standalone headsets have better support on linux also than the index.
I myself bought an index headset to switch from quest 2 and its not a better headset. At most its a side grade that costs way more, and wouldn’t have been worth it other than getting base stations for the base station ecosystem.

The quest 3 has like 25 ppd (pixels per degree) and the human limit is like at least 60 ppd. So your friend needs some glasses

The index is also not as good as the quest 2. Although if a valve index full kit were selling for 233.3 dollars (1/3 of 700) that is honestly worth it solely for the basestations to use with full body tracking. Basestations tend to sell for 300 usd a pair.
I’m not seeing any index full kits selling for that cheap though, at a minimum 550 for the full kit.

I still use deviantart occasionally and the ui has gotten worse every year. Even ignoring the impact ai art has had on the platform, search doesn’t work anymore, groups don’t work anymore, its impossible to find things you are looking for

Literally every VR headset released this year is over 1k. Only meta (and now valve) care about budget headsets

Its a standalone headset that runs steamos.

Wikipedia already has a button where you can go to another language’s version of that page where you can then machine translate it yourself.

It already is, they just put guardrails to prevent it from making adult content before

I heard mods of big subreddits can get basically sponsored by big companies and go to events. Half the pc gaming subreddits have what are basically ad posts pinned by the mods.

- Comment on The Browser Wasn’t Enough, Google Wants To Control All Your Software 4 months ago:
At the highschool I went to, there was some standardized testing (act, ap tests) done in locked down software installed on the chromebooks. Like instead of logging into your user, it was before login with no browser or anything. It sometimes let you have desmos and a small place to take notes.

Ios is bad. I’d rather have locked down android with the official terminal, rather than go back to using the iSh[1] app for terminal on ios

You don’t need to follow the entire spec for a usb c. Usb c has a display port mode, but most laptops that have this won’t have it on every port. Most usb c cables also don’t support display port mode, which is annoying because they usually won’t say if it supports it.
Usb c extension cords are not allowed in the spec and yet they exist

Chromebooks these days have locked down modes for tests where you can only acess the test and maybe desmos, I think newer AP tests are done this way at the highschool I went to.

I’m in that age range and while I enjoy VR (VRchat is one of my most played games), I think at a certain point AR is “going too far”. The current AR technology in the quest 3 is nice, good enough I don’t need more. Being able to watch vids on a big screen anywhere in my house is enough.
Apple and meta though I think they want an all encompassing device that you wear all the time that replaces the phone, and thats a step too far. People already spend enough time on there phones when uts a single tiny screen, I don’t think it would be good for attention spans to be able to spawn in infinite floating windows at any time.
You can kinda already have 6 floating windows on the quest 3 which is too much stimulation for a single person and I don’t think its good for society to have this. I think if it can get a form factor similar to glasses (which I doubt is possible), people will buy it and get addicted.
Current day vr is like the polar opposite of the future AR that they want anyways. VR games force you to only focus on the current thing, because you are in the game, can’t alt tab or look at your phone while in loading screens or watch youtube while gaming. This kinda forces you to do it in moderation.

Quest 3 lens and displays actually are nice to look at, I coded for 5 hours in it the other day, and the only glaring flaw was the weight. Tbf I only have a 1080p monitor for comparison bur its nice.

Dang I’m in college right now and in highschool most teachers didn’t mind you looking at your phone in class. In college the profs don’t even react to people taking calls in class.

The quest 3 stays sharp when alignment changes, its surprisingly nice to work in outside of the brick on my face. I would hope the xreal glasses can match quest 3 clarity
