- Comment on Anyone else from Europe feels the same while browsing the "All" feed? 1 day ago:
I'm not European but I am Canadian and I don't know if Americans realise how annoying it is that any general community like "politics" or "news" is specifically American as per the rules. I was really hoping we'd leave the US defaultism behind on Reddit
- Comment on Jokes on you, I don't want to work 3 days ago:
My current job had me pretty much interview with every member of my now team. It was insane and I'm happy I didn't have to do it while unemployed and desperately searching. I can't imagine going through that repeatedly
- Comment on Jokes on you, I don't want to work 3 days ago:
Or setting up an interview and then saying "sorry the company decided that they're not looking to hire anyone right now" a day or two before. Why does that keep happening to me?
- Comment on Have you encountered this? 3 days ago:
The PIN thing really confused me when I visited the US (right before Trump got in again). Like even the places that did support chip would just accept my payment without having me enter anything. First time I bought something I thought the machine glitched because I didn't even realise a payment could be made without the PIN
- Comment on Have you encountered this? 3 days ago:
Unfortunately...
- Comment on Have you encountered this? 3 days ago:
In Canada they just bring you the payment machine and it asks the percent you want to tip. There is a physical bill but its only used by the server to know what to enter really

The US will do anything and everything except try proper gun control
- Comment on Google Gemini struggles to write code, calls itself “a disgrace to my species” 5 days ago:
I know Lemmy seems to very anti-AI (as am I) but we need to stop making the anti-AI talking point "AI is stupid". It has immense limitations now because yes, it is being crammed into things it shouldn't be, but we shouldn't just be saying "its dumb" because that's immediately written off by a sizable amount of the general population. For a lot of things, it is actually useful and it WILL be taking peoples jobs, like it or not (even if they're worse at it). Truth be told, this should be a utopic situation for obvious reasons
I feel like I'm going crazy here because the same people on here who'd criticise the DARE anti-drug program as being completely un-nuanced to the point of causing the harm they're trying to prevent are doing the same thing for AI and LLMs
My point is that if you're trying to convince anyone, just saying its stupid isn't going to turn anyone against AI because the minute it offers any genuine help (which it will!), they'll write you off like any DARE pupil who tried drugs for the first time.
*Countries need to start implementing UBI NOW*

- Comment on GitHub CEO delivers stark message to developers: Embrace AI or get out. 1 week ago:
Copilot is shit
Yes and no. I find its terrible at solving more complex problems but its great at writing out tests for a function/view that covers every flow. My team went from having like 40% (shit) coverage to every PR having every case tested (inb4 they're not good tests, they are good)
With that being said, fuck CEOs and fuck AI.

No its there that's the "unnamed state". We finally found New Zealand
- Comment on GOG Launches NSFW Game Giveaway "To Raise Awareness On Censorship In Gaming" 1 week ago:
That completely misses the point of this giveaway. Even ignoring that, these games are being donated by the devs. I'm not sure why a studio not affected by this at all would donate their game fighting this (I know a few might on principal but still)

Not saying you're wrong but I do feel like there's still so much of the universe to explore, even if the main arc is complete. I would love to learn more about Rapture
- Comment on Kill Them With Fire 1 week ago:
I feel weird about this sort of joke because it's exactly the same kind of humour the right wing has been using about the left for decades. Its almost like a "boy who cried wolf" sort of situation except it was the wolves who were crying 😅
Also, while its true, if seems sort of low brow for such a serious situation (even if its 💯% true)

This is usually true but but not always. There's often times when a URL query like that is used to choose the page to load. I believe wordpress does this

I'm the opposite of both of you. The build quality is good and the OS is good. I love having a familiat UNIX system while also having a polished desktop environment that supports 4k scaling very well (though the polish has been lacking a lot lately)
The issue for me is the insane price of their computers and the fact that you can't (officially) install MacOS on your own hardware. I have a Linux desktop and a MBP but I'd run MacOS on both if it was officially supported
- Comment on OpenAI’s Sam Altman warns of AI voice fraud crisis in banking 3 weeks ago:
Even ISPs do this where I am. You don't have to utter anything specifically but if they detect your voice being drastically different from what they have on file, they'll lock you out before you even talk to a real person. Not sure how I feel about it tbh

Huh I guess replit pivoted hard into AI. I remember it just being a web IDE sorta thing

I have (and love!) Manor Lords! Admittedly I haven't played it since it first came out though. Has the dev added more content? I remember later game feeling a bit directionless

Honestly, at first glance I kind of laughed at this thing but the more I think about it, the more I want it. I have an e-scooter that I don't use often(I end up using rentals more often than not) just because I have to store it in my basement but this would fit by my door no problem

Hahaha I didn't know that but that is funny. Admittedly I'm not too big into hockey so I've got no gauge on how popular the Sens are

I love Annubis just because the dev is from my city that's never talked about (Ottawa)
- Comment on Just.....why? 5 weeks ago:
Yeah, my understanding is that companies generate this data and just sell it unprocessed to data harvesting companies who link it with other data they’ve been sold. Companies seeking targeted info can then request data with varying levels of depth.
Like a company may request a list of emails of users who are very good (or bad) about brushing their teeth everyday to target ads at
- Comment on Are you ready skids? 5 weeks ago:
I haven’t heard skid used as a term for a person since I left my small Ontario town haha
