I was playing games on reddit but only the dumb and weird flash games they’d have in the sidebar that users would submit instead of advertisements (back in like 2013). I miss those days

- Comment on The amount of ghost towns in the US and elsewhere will skyrocket in our lifetimes and become a normalized thing 6 days ago:
There won’t be an explicit decision to up and leave to create a new city, don’t get me wrong. What I expect is that these cities will continue to make the cheapest, politically convenient attempts at solving the issue which will only lead to it being more and more expensive to live there comfortably. People will naturally leave to other neighbouring cities or towns that are in less of a dire situation
Water is not that expensive even shipped
Not right now but as it becomes scarce in the area, that cost will go up exponentially. As the cost rises, people who can’t afford it will start leaving - lowering the incentive to ship water out that way (a
smaller market). That further pushes up the cost forcing more people to leave until it snowballs into a ghost city - Comment on The amount of ghost towns in the US and elsewhere will skyrocket in our lifetimes and become a normalized thing 6 days ago:
The problem repeatedly seems to come down to a decision of “cost now, money saved later” versus “money saved now, much bigger cost later”.
The choice always seems to be the latter

I mean, in this theoretical situation it would. Ignoring the fact that it’s metaphorical, it’s sort of like saying we shouldn’t build windmills or nuclear power plants because the construction produces co2

- Comment on Why? 2 weeks ago:
Yeah, it’s sort of an odd part of the threadiverse. Every instance calculates based on what they’re notified of which means the age of the server along with what other instances it’s federated with impacts the count
- Comment on Why? 2 weeks ago:
During the initial reddit migration, Lemmy/Kbin had a larger active userbase than it does now. It fell off a bit after a little while, though its slowly creeping back up there with a more committed community.
But basically there were more users to upvote beans at that point

What are you running that needs more than 32Gb? I’m only just barely being bottlenecked by my 24Gb when running games at 4k

I don’t know about the US but in Canada, security can’t even actually physically stop you in any way so no need to run!
- Comment on Immich Is Now Stable! 2 weeks ago:
Immich’s use of AI is arguably one of the most suitable cases for the technology and it runs entirely on your own device. I get the hate for AI but this ain’t it

- Comment on Cities: Skylines creators Colossal Order are handing the series over to the Surviving The Aftermath devs 3 weeks ago:
The new one is a lot of fun and it runs better than it did on launch but it feels like its missing a ton of content that the first one had. I assume CO plans to slowly sell all that content back in the form LF DLC :/

The OP comment is annoying but your comment gives this vibe

- Comment on Are Memoirs and Autobiographies partly fictional? How the f do people remember so much detail? 5 weeks ago:
I’m guessing a lot of it sort of comes back to you as you’re writing your memoir. My grandparents both wrote one and it also helps that they had a lot of photos to jog their memories. They also grew up in Europe during WW2 so a lot of memories stood out to them 😅
- Comment on FBI Tries to Unmask Owner of Infamous Archive.is Site 5 weeks ago:
Purely anecdotal but they're the only news site that I've ever given my email to and I actually enjoy seeing their emails. They send entire (interesting) articles that can be read with no CSS/tracking images enabled and their monetisation is a small text ad that breaks a single couple of paragraphs.
I've never gotten an email from them that was begging for money or anything like that, just basically an RSS feed of interesting articles
