ARE YOU SERIOUS RIGHT NOW?? YOU CAN JUST HAVE A TERMINAL ATTACHED TO IT TO DO WHATEVER??? HOW did I not know about this sooner I spent literal hours researching how to best use neovim
That was literally my only problem with cli-based text editors and its just there???
I’m gonna be so fucking powerful now that i know this , thank you you beautiful lemmy user
- Comment on Microsoft doesn't understand the Fediverse 3 weeks ago:
And I can’t really argue with you cause, I’ll be honest with you, I’m an amateur programmer. I actually do use neovim though, I just said vim because it’s just more recognizable. Like, that’s just kinda the name of this general category of thing. Don’t have enough experience to know the difference between the two though (except that vim doesn’t clear itself from my terminal when I exit, that’s annoying. Oh and the tutor. And the color. But I haven’t experimented with any of those cool plug-ins yet…)
- Comment on Microsoft doesn't understand the Fediverse 3 weeks ago:
That’s the thing though, they would drop it in an instant if there was an alternative. The fact that there’s no competition on the OS front is due to conscious efforts on their part to monopolize desktop operating systems because they wouldn’t be able to compete if they had competition.
- Comment on Microsoft doesn't understand the Fediverse 3 weeks ago:
You’re talking to a vim user. If you even suggest that a MS product is better I’ll go crazy and crush up my own teeth into dust and then put it in my morning breakfast milk to make Teeth Milk (Tilk)
You’ve been warned.
(It’s 6 in the morning and I still haven’t slept I’m really sorry about this but this reply seems really funny to me so I’m posting against my better judgement)

That’s called a scam artist, and honestly that’s not far off at all. They did some sneaky shit to maintain a monopoly.
- Comment on Microsoft doesn't understand the Fediverse 3 weeks ago:
Does Microsoft understand anything? At all? They suck at making software, the suck at making operating systems, they suck at making genAI, they suck at making game consoles, they’re starting to suck at owning github, what don’t they suck at? What part of their business is done better than anyone else? What end user experience is better on an MS product than anywhere else? They have a shittier alternative to literally everything and nothing truly good.

- Comment on The time has come! 3 weeks ago:
From what I hear that’s actually the best way to do it. It only takes a few extra seconds and you don’t have to wear out your fridge and do weird plumbing shit. I have an ice dispenser now and it spills ice everywhere sometimes, and just randomly doesn’t have any ice to give me occasionally. And it shorts out the entire damn room or some shit sometimes so I have to lean into a crevice almost behind the fridge to press a button on the wall at ankle height to reset everything. If I don’t notice, everything in the kitchen stops working until i do notice, including the fridge which Is a very bad thing to happen for too long.

- Comment on Sony is releasing a new PS5 console, but it's a downgrade 4 weeks ago:
To be clear, I’m not saying “as powerful” when I say “as good.” A cheap old gaming PC can already play about 90% of games ever released, so why would I care about the AAA games from the last 5 years that demand newer hardware for no real reason? Terraria, Skyrim, Fallout 4, Minecraft, Cuphead, saints row 3, etc. All have cheap as hell minimum requirements and look great.
- Comment on Sony is releasing a new PS5 console, but it's a downgrade 4 weeks ago:
Just consoles! You can still prowl ebay for computer parts and build something basically just as good for like 200 bucks.

Steam and lutris for non steam games. You literally need to learn one program and navigate one singular menu is another and voila every computer game just kinda works, at least in my experience.
