I like it. Feels like seeing a kind of truth that goes mostly obscured.
- Comment on You've probably met someone who has killed a person 19 hours ago:
I once gave a friend of a friend a condescending chewing-out after they did something hurtful.
Some time later our mutual friend informed me that they had died, but declined to tell me the cause of death.
Much later I discovered it was self-caused.
… Were my words too much? We spend our lives trying to be more effective communicators. What if we’re too effective when it matters most?
- Comment on Evidence That Humans Now Speak in a Chatbot-Influenced Dialect Is Getting Stronger 5 days ago:
If AI is modeled after intellectuals, there will inevitably be a swath of non-intellectuals who conclude the post title… because the idea of intellectuals predating AI is unthinkable to them.

Whatever bullshit tasks you’re dreading, see if it’s possible to do them before work, or on your lunch break, or on the weekend, or on your scheduled vacation days

- Comment on Elon Musk says Optimus will 'eliminate poverty' in speech after his $1 trillion pay package was approved 5 weeks ago:
There are established methods of eliminating poverty. They are decried by the right-wing as bad.
Just look at why there are so few homeless and incarcerated people in the most developed European nations… they must be doing something right.
- Comment on Why don't cars have a way to contact nearby cars like fictional spaceships do? 1 month ago:
Many people would use such a method to troll and be disruptive, possibly causing collisions

I don’t see them eliminating Linux from the internet
- Comment on Show your pride 1 month ago:
If a bee sees a color we cannot, it would be pretty silly to insist it’s not a color on the basis of us being unable to see it, wouldn’t it?
- Comment on Show your pride 1 month ago:
I wonder if there are some metals that appear grey to us but actually have a color, we just don’t see it because it’s outside our visible spectrum
- Comment on Are there good Movies, TV Shows, Anime, with wholesome family (particularly parent-child) relations? 1 month ago:
Future is a separate show, set after the movie, not another season of the first show. It’s tonally very different.

- Comment on Not to get all religiony but why in the old testament God was all fire and brimstone and fatal consequences? But the new testament God is all about forgiveness and such?? 2 months ago:
Because the people who wrote the old testament wanted to scare people into subservience
And those who wrote the new testament thought positive reinforcement was better

This is unironically good evidence that climate change is critically important (for the few slow ones that didn’t know already).

Does it really count if most of that “code” is broken and unused?
Churning out 9x as much code as humans isn’t really impressive if it just sits in a folder waiting to be checked for bugs

- Comment on Computer Science, a popular college major, has one of the highest unemployment rates 3 months ago:
I don’t necessarily regret getting a degree, but I would have perhaps focused on a more in-demand degree if I knew how the economy was going to change.

Copy Epic’s model of selling “Sbucks” or similar, which you then spend on those games. Problem solved.
- Comment on People angry that Superman represents kindness are outright admitting that they don't want to be good people 5 months ago:
There are two plausible explanations:
-
People think immigrant refers to a person who chose to move. Since Superman didn’t arrive on Earth by choice, he’s not an immigrant. This is, of course, incorrect.
-
People think the term immigrant only refers to people who look “different” compared to what is common in the region. This is, of course, racist.
