MDMA works that way for certain conditions like PTSD. It’s a bit like your brain has forgotten what „happy“ (or just „not depressed“) feels like. A substance induces that state and therapy helps to stabilise it.

This! Skilful use of substances is the key. Understand why you take it, how it works in your body and what you can do to get closer to the desired state or effect without using.
That is also why I believe the differentiation between legal and illegal substances is not helpful, as it often leads to a more careless (ab)use of legal substances like alcohol.

Which is complete bs to begin with. Lead was added to fortify benzine for higher compression and to “lubricate” the valves. Modern additives and motor construction makes lead completely unnecessary and even possibly detrimental. It basically was used to mask constructional shortcomings of old motors.

Back in the days I learned most of my English playing adventure games: space/kings/police quest, maniac mansion, monkey island, leisure suit larry, you get the idea. Helped me get an A in my finals.
Many of them should be public domain by now.

This is a complex topic and there are way too many aspects to it for there to be one expert on everything.
For a start, I’d suggest you look into Andrew Huberman. A more practical approach would be through any kind of bodywork
- pranayama/breathwork, SOMA-breath
- meditation, yoga (nidra)
- vagus nerve stimulation
