So let’s all band together and not purchase things from companies that don’t let us own what we bought. These companies will have to change their behavior if they see a fall in sales. Let’s make ownership the majority again

That seems to make sense and maybe most people will think that and this will stay niche. However I can see a legitimate use case of skipping traffic in a large city which gives significant utility. Also many people own expensive toys like toyhaulers and Canam Mavericks which come out over $200k in total. What I’m saying is I really won’t be surprised if these get incredibly popular.

Not nearly every developer puts DRM in their games and not every platform that distributes software says you only license the software, many let you own it

Bronzebeard is being objective and certainly not taking the position you’re generalizing here

So Steam is part of the problem. They can simply not have that in their EULA. With that attitude no change will ever happen for the better

Steam also places DRM and states in their EULA that you pay to license the title and not own it. Looks like your a Steam fanboy. We shouldn’t be fanboys of anything but simply notice the good and bagld companies do because either way they aren’t our friends

Yeah no kidding…

There are lots of fairly standard high end cars that go for more money than that. So the potential is quite high for these to sell well

I was thinking about that limitations would exist although I don’t know what they are at this point. Just getting options here from other people. I do think I want to create something 16bit or even have more detail with 32bit (still a 2D game). It seems like all my interests are coming together around Python and saw that GoDot has a plugin to allow the use of Python over their in-house scripting language. So with GoDot via Python I could make my game have neat new abilities such as the depth of field and particles from games such as Octopath Traveler and Songs of Conquest. Then I would be limited to New consoles but with a retro pixel art aesthetic and forego retro console releases. This way I can really learn and apply Python knowledge and it would benefit my various interests/hobbies.
- Comment on Active Retro Consoles 2 weeks ago:
I considered that for sure but I do think I want the ability to have more detail in my game world

Thanks for the info! That’s all really interesting and I’ll look into it

That’s good to know. However even just the Moby games count I’m pretty surprised that these systems are so active

I was unaware of all of this. I’m on Linux so I don’t use their launcher. I’ve seen sketchy EULAs that are game specific but not heard about DRM

- Comment on NAS decision paralysis 5 weeks ago:
I’ve been in a similar situation looking for a NAS setup that would work for me, and with my current limited knowledge. I settled on the HomePiNAS. It’s a custom PCB they make that mounts a CM5, up to 6 drives, 2.5G NIC, and x2 m.2 slots all in a 3D printable case they can ship for you too. Put on Open Media Vault or whatever else you want and it’s good to go. I was interested because it’s not a complicated setup, allows for AI chips to be added or whatever else you want to use, has a 2.5G nic, and is low power.
