That’s a thing on mainland China too. Apparently some of them think being sat with a big stuffed animal in the middle of a restaurant is a thing of nightmares too.
- Comment on If a 2M employee return to work order is declared soon, I could see us in the US finding ourselves with tent cities full of white collar workers. 3 weeks ago:
Take a minute to look through all the photos of hoovervilles. Tens of thousands of people in tents, often with the apartments they were evicted from and the factories closed or running at a fraction of capacity within a few hundred yards.
How would you explain to aliens why tens of thousands of people in every city were driven from their homes empty to live in squalor while being prevented from doing anything productive?

It was a joke, Putin, being a fascist, wouldn’t support queer people, even in enemy countries. Your friend being nb and buying into that conspiracy is very silly.

They wrote an article from an unsubstantiated rumor on Reddit.
Meanwhile, China’s People’s Dispatch has praised the exchange, and Rednote has added a translation feature.

- Comment on China’s Economy Could Soon Face A Massive Debt Crisis 1 month ago:
That’s weird, every statistic I can find suggests mainland China’s housing prices have been decreasing since 2022. The whole reason developers abandoned projects was the projected cost went lower than what they’d spend finishing it.
- Comment on China’s Economy Could Soon Face A Massive Debt Crisis 1 month ago:
For which people? The people renting 2bds in major cities for 3-400/mo? The people who want to build a 2bd outside a major city for 50K+land cost?
It’s devastating for the people trying to make money off housing, it’s great for the people who need housing.

Chinese manufacturers build to specification. Most of those brand names are manufactured in China. If you don’t want the absolute cheapest shit, don’t buy the absolute cheapest shit.
- Comment on US to reportedly sanction 200 more Chinese chip firms — high bandwidth memory might also see export bans 2 months ago:
It would have been so easy for the dems to remove the tarriffs on Chinese goods and be like “Hey America, things are 25%+ cheaper, and you can get an electric car for 10K” and the sanctions on Cuba and go “Look at these cheap, quality cigars, rum, and beaches”, instead of expanding on Trump’s policy from 2016.

That doesn’t always happen, look at the massacres in South Korea before the end of the dictatorship.
The numbers on wikipedia are lower than actual numbers as questioning them could literally get you executed, the official number for the Gwangju uprising for instance is 165, but the city recorded an extra 2300 deaths above historical averages for May. That doesn’t include thousands who were arrested, many of whom sentenced to death.

- Comment on Solar modules now selling for less than €0.06/W in Europe 3 months ago:
Maybe in the UK when each plants is basically unique instead of having improvements from all the previous iterations. In the US it’s around 92%. I don’t know how to search China or France’s numbers, but I suspect they’re similar or better.
- Comment on Solar modules now selling for less than €0.06/W in Europe 3 months ago:
A MW of solar averages out to about .2 MW/h per hour. A MW of nuclear averages about .9 MW/h per hour.
But even so as the UK does it, nuclear power isn’t worth it. France and China are better examples since they both picked a few designs and mass produced them.

How strong were particle accelerators back then?
The only case I know of a dude sticking their head in a particle accelerator was in 1978. His head became quite swollen and he had radiation burns. He’s still alive at 82.
There’s also the Therac-25, that was pretty noticible.
