- Comment on Is there any open-source project that serves the same purpose of Duolingo that can be self-hosted? 2 months ago:
That seems pretty straightforward if you have experience with that stuff, I don’t have that experience.

Anki is amazing, but it’s not self hosted without some effort.

Yeah, yeast doubling rate is around 90 mins in optimal conditions, I would assume the rest of the microbes in your gut would have a very similar rate and they would be well adapted to those conditions.

My mom once told me “if you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all” so I’m going to end my comment right here.

I imagine there are very few truly unique experiences in this life and that someone has likely been through exactly what you’re going through in a different time and place.

Incredibly, they actually drew their cartoons based on observations in nature. The duck season/rabbit season bit commonly seen in the Bugs and Daffy cartoons, while exaggerated was based on true events.

I’d use Matrix but the last time I jumped on all the chats were dead and the ones I had joined had all been spammed with CSAM.
- Comment on Is there ever a situation where a doctor can legally refuse to render aid to someone? 2 months ago:
EMTALA is likely the law you’re referring to which says if a patient shows up on a hospital campus with a medical emergency, staff must stabilize that patient before discharging unless the patient refuses medical care and goes AMA.

This is false, the Flying Spaghetti Monster in his infinite noodly wisdom and power created the world yesterday and made the Earth appear billions of years old and the universe appear even older.

I feel like a lot of these posts are people just “poking the bear” and others end up taking them seriously. I understood this concept fairly early because of my family’s heavy use of sarcasm and seeing Calvin’s dad (of Calvin and Hobbes) explain things. Sometimes your best bet is to just not give the lesson and leave it alone so it doesn’t get unnecessary attention.
- Comment on Canadian doctors who provide euthanasia struggle with the ethics of killing vulnerable patients 3 months ago:
Bodily autonomy is so important and the right to end your life is important. Palliative care and hospice care are fantastic for those who need it, but once all those options have been exhausted and progress can’t be made on a cure or at least quality of life improvements, you reach a point where giving the patient the tools to take their life makes ethical sense.
- Comment on Hmmmm 3 months ago:
What kills me a little is when someone has to come up with some nebulous acronym that we’re all supposed to know but no one ever defines it at the beginning of the document. In EEG we like to change the name of what are now known as lateralized periodic discharges. I have a document with about 25 different terms that all describe different terminology that’s been used to describe that EEG finding.

Mosquitoes couldn’t type a message that long without a special buzz to text technology. Call me a mosquito again and me and my friends come down to your place in the middle of the night while you sleep and we’ll make you very itchy.
