I feel like phones have just gotten worse over time. My 1st smartphones had so many more cool features like rf blasters, removable batteries, headphone jacks, expandable storage, etc. now we force everything to the cloud, accelerate e waste with irreparable Bluetooth everything, but oooh it has a fancier camera!

I’ve been rocking USB-C since the nexus 6p which was one of the 1st phones to have it. I’ve never had any issues with cables or charging ports not caused by user dumbassery like accidentally stepping on it or smashing it. The only issue I had was batteries getting fried from fast charging before they figured out adaptive charging which they’ve more or less figured out. The design is pretty solid imo and it’s very versatile. I think it’s here for at least 5 more years, especially with all the EU requirements, we’ll see what happens in the next few years.

They can come knocking all they want, but you are not legally required as an heir to pay that debt. Surely there are a few exceptions like mortgage payments (if u wanna keep the house), but personal debts like credit cards? Not your problem.

I was watching that dude’s video that sailed from Oregon to Hawaii with his cat, and he got a care package via helicopter from someone n he couldn’t read the note because it was in cursive. Like I know we don’t teach cursive anymore, but l feel like it’s close enough to figure it out for reading. It really blew my mind that a 20 something year old couldn’t read something written in English.

- Comment on Gen X and millennials three times more likely to be diagnosed with appendix cancer than their parents, study finds 4 weeks ago:
I’m one of those people. Got it randomly at age 33 or so. I did eat taco bell for the first time in a long time the night before, and I don’t think the 2 are unrelated. But yeah dude sepsis isn’t fun. Shaking uncontrollably involuntary is 100% 0/10. At 1st I was glad they cut that useless fucking time bomb out, but since then, my body is fucking terrible about managing bacterial infections. I’ve had strep, and a bunch of ear / sinus infections and taken antibiotics, but the shit will not go away. They say that they think the appendix is some kind of bacterial filter, and I’m inclined to agree. In hindsight, I wish I’d asked for an antibiotic based treatment plan since they caught it before my appendix burst, but hey, hindsight is 20/20.

My friend from work doesn’t drink water. Like. At all. She drinks Diet coke like all day. She’s in her 50’s and has a ton of health issues. I don’t think that’s a coincidence.
- Comment on The joy of quitting a shit job with an asshole boss 5 weeks ago:
I have attempted the 2 week’s notice 3 times. Only 1 of which have I actually made it to the end. First job in HS, I had no bad blood, but it was a union shop that paid like .10 over min wage. When the union tried to shake me down for dues (of which they wanted like 2 check’s worth of money since I was the Lowest level and only working part time) I told them no thank you, put in 2 weeks notice, worked til the end.
2nd job it was the end of high school, 2 weeks notice was in bc off to college. The company fires my boss, then I tell his replacement I need x and y days off next week for grad night/ graduation related activities. I show up the next day and it’s a different guy working who made the schedule without talking to anyone apparently. I told him I had asked the other lady for X and Y days off. “Well, right now you’re scheduled to work, if you want those days off, you’re going to need to get someone to cover your shift.”
I’m good chief, I’ll take my last check please.
The other one I had the new job desperately needing help and wanting me to start ASAP, so I worked it out where I was going to grind a 60+ hr week where I’d train in the AM at the new job and take a late shift at the old job. The 2nd day I was burnt out asf. I walk into the old job at 6 pm after grinding 8 hrs at the new job to a severely understaffed store and I was supposed to close down with the worst fellow supervisor we had. She was a very sweet older lady, but she was just slow at absolutely everything she did. I knew that closing with her while short a cashier and a bagger meant I’d be doing double/ triple duty that night and getting out an hour later than usual. I just said fuck this shit and bounced. I made up some sob story about personal issues going on to not completely burn that bridge and actually kept eligibility for rehire, but I was fucking done with that place.

- Comment on In 2025, Apple still makes it hard to play your own MP3s, so I wrote my own app 1 month ago:
I remember back when iPods were a thing, I hated how you couldn’t drag and drop files, and manage your own storage. Syncing seemed so stupid, and I couldn’t believe that they were so popular. The thing they had going for them is it’s idiot proof to the point where it pissed off anyone who knew what they were doing. That’s been Apple’s MO since roughly that era, and I can’t stand their products because of it.
