Really … separating that stuff takes like 5 seconds extra.

The point of the packaging shown in the original post is pretty much that it’s more paper and less plastic … where recycling tends to work better.
- Comment on I'm doing my part! 16 hours ago:
Regarding the wording. In German(y) we have two kinds of “Verwertung” (utilization). The material one (recycling) and the energetic one (incineration). Both is viewed as reusing the waste. Sometimes energetic utilization can supply the power and/or heat needed for material utilization.
Burning it doesn’t have to be as bad as burying it.
- Comment on I'm doing my part! 17 hours ago:
Especially for paper no … or rather it’s complicated. There is demand for recycled paper and we have lots of products which are made with these.
If I understand it correctly, Germany imports more waste paper than it exports. But the quality between those two differs
- Comment on I'm doing my part! 17 hours ago:
Like it’s been said that differs vastly by location. Afaik here in Germany it works quite okay … and European countries tend to have a higher incineration rate than the US. Burning the trash certainly isn’t the best solution, but at least it converts them into energy instead of just burying it somewhere.
But that aside, I like these “new” cups. It replaces part of the plastic with cardboard. That allows the plastic to be thinner, focusing on sealing it up and the cardboard handle the stability or even light protection. Though it can definitely be that there are some which are still as thick as they were, but that wouldn’t make sense for the producer. Here in Germany the plastic is often see-through and the cardboard printed on both sides. That’s usually used as advertising space, infos for waste disposal, but I’ve even seen it being used for cup noodles to mark the fill level.
Afaik paper is the thing where reycling works best currently, so it should be a win to replace plastic with paper.
The recycling rate increased in 2023. 79.3% of all paper and board consumed in Europe was recycled

Honestly never heard of that, but I’m also a bit lost in translation. Does this have any relevance to a person that only uses olive and sunflower oil and doesn’t eat any meat?

without chemical pesticides and fertilizers
Yes, we have some plants in our garden. But my mom does the planting and weed control.
What I’m referencing is that I’m eating wild strawberries, which I just water. It’s only a few here and there, but the big intentionally grown strawberries were mostly eaten by snails, despite my mom trying to kill them with snail pellets.
I also harvest wild oregano and spearmint, that all grows well.
The rest, which was planted, requires a lot of watering. Though that’s a good opportunity for me to get outside. But on a big field that would take a lot longer and be more annoying. Unless it’s raining that’s certainly something you have to do every day.
I’m not sure if my mom used some fertilizer, she sometimes does. But our main fertilizer is compost, though that’s definitely a lot of work and won’t scale neither.
But back to renewables… that should still improve the situation, since it allows at least automated irrigation and such. For big fields plowing doesn’t work with electric tractors yet afaik

Isn’t it some form of renewables? Growing food with the sun.
Though I prefer to just water edible wild stuff occasionally instead of putting to much energy in growing it intentionally.

- it would be illegal to go after the nest in Germany. At least generally. There are of course exceptions, but you’d need to get the authorities involved and a specialist remove them.
- you’d often need to dig, because the most annoying wasps (common wasp and German yellowjacket) often have their nests underground

shipped off to some landfill
No. I know this is shitpost, but that’s a stupid take.
In countries like Germany the amount of waste grows, but amount of landfills is actually in decline. Landfills mostly contain building waste and household garbage is required to get treated before getting landfilled.

But this is about animations and not images.
as a static image
Means that the format basically works, but the viewer/browser doesn’t support the animation extension … or more likely the animation got erroneously re-encoded and the extension was lost.
In the past it looked like some platforms generally move away from supporting animated images and converted them to videos or static images instead. Videos give you more control over the playback. animations either stop when they are done or loop for a fixed/infinite time. Videos can stop, pause, rewind etc.
