Some buddies of mine all got together and tried replaying Pahntasy Star Online. Back in 2002? High school. Fuckit Plenty of time to grind. Level 199-200 is more XP than level 1-199. The game is a grind.
The new fan server has a sandbox mode. All it took was me saying “guys. I’m 40. I’m not putting another 2200 hours into this fucking title to get back to where I was on Dreamcast and GameCube. I’m playing sandbox. Join me there if you want.”
So now we just fuck around with mid-level characters with whatever fashionable weapons we can conjure up. We already put in our time. It’d be insane to do it all over from scratch.

Digital Extremes was going to do something somewhat similar with their nemesis system jut had to scrap it because of that patent. So now we have the mediocre Lich/Sister/Boyband systems in place instead.
