- Comment on The tech sector is pouring billions of dollars into AI. But it keeps laying off humans 10 months ago:
No, this is independent on AI. AI for big tech is a core product, like a car for BMW. The layoffs are completely unrelated to AI, and related to stock price and interest rates of borrowing money. None of the layoff employee has been substituted by AI
Unrelated news in a single title just to attract readers.
- Comment on Wi-Fi 7 quietly took off while everyone was looking at AI 10 months ago:
What a weird title. They are completely 2 different, independent things. Just to be categorized with AI hype articles…
- Comment on Well, it looks like verification photos might be useless now. 10 months ago:
It can youtu.be/8PCn5hLKNu4
It is however still cutting edge research
- Comment on Scientists show how ‘doing your own research’ leads to believing conspiracies — This effect arises because of the quality of information churned out by Google’s search engine 10 months ago:
Title makes no sense. Researchers did “their own research”. Expert and non expert do “their own research”. Simply there are people who knows how to do it and to draw meaningful conclusions from sources and data, and people who don’t.

It is muuuuuuuuuuch lower
- Comment on Scientists successfully replicate historic nuclear fusion breakthrough three times 11 months ago:
If you have fusion energy, creating H2 from water via electrolysis is a joke. You can do it at home. It only requires a lot of energy. But with energy from fusion it will become super easy, barely an inconvenient
- Comment on Worst person in tech 2023 - semi final 11 months ago:
How did Nadella lost to Altman? Nadella is the reason Altman is what it is now. The reason open ai is not anymore an independent no profit research team to push open AI solutions.
He’s the king maker of evil tech. Nadella vs Musk is the only possible final. Whoever voted is insulting one of 2 main contender. Like CEO of BP losing against a gas pump owner
- Comment on OpenAI suspends ByteDance’s account after it used GPT to train its own AI model. 11 months ago:
It’s like pupils learning from teachers, with the exception that there’s a single teacher in the whole world

Naughty dog’s average customer is not interested to online games. It would have flopped
Bad idea starting, good idea stopping before too late
- Comment on UK workers ‘should get day off’ if workplace is hotter than 30C 11 months ago:
And British used to joke about Spanish siesta… Now they want to close everything at Spanish spring’s temperature
- Comment on Grand Theft Auto VI Trailer 1 11 months ago:
For Rome, grand theft auto in the 70s is absolutely doable. Full of gangs, terrorists, molotovs.
Grand theft auto Rome 2023 would be about some fat guy bribing politicians to get the work for his company of collect garbage and never do it. The lucrative non-fancy side of crime
- Comment on Grand Theft Auto VI Trailer 1 11 months ago:
They have police in those city.
All 2022 Rome had only 16 homicides… And street are too small and traffic is too bad for a grand theft auto… Rome is good for spy stories, thriller or stealth games. GTA wouldn’t really work
- Comment on Broadcom CEO tells VMWare workers to ‘get butt back to office’ after completing a $69 billion merger of the two companies 11 months ago:
We have several big clusters built on mixed virtual and bare bone. I would our system engineer to manually build on virtualbox before even touching hyper-v. For some political reasons our IT forced us to test to build a solution on hyper-v, I still have nightmares. I am not even the person who had to do it in practice.
It is long to explain it here, just give it a try. Windows server and all releted solutions are simply bad for real workloads. Who use it on server is just a company who doesn’t need to be productive on the IT side. Their core business is not tech related and they don’t care other than getting cheap sys admins
- Comment on Broadcom CEO tells VMWare workers to ‘get butt back to office’ after completing a $69 billion merger of the two companies 11 months ago:
On the other hand, they must think its portfolio is a rather stable set of solutions, while the bulk of innovation is moving towards kubernetes like solutions.
They are considering to transform the business model more like oracle, sap, cisco, where the core business is sales not innovation. Their plan is probably that they have such a strong position in the market that talents are not needed, just average people who can patch out stuff somehow.
I have too much technical experience to agree with them thwthis is a good call. I believe it will be a disaster on the long run. But their background is clearly different, and they saw on the market a huge amount of successful companies which such business model. First among all pre-nadella Microsoft.
- Comment on Lucid dream startup says engineers can write code in their sleep. Work may never be the same 11 months ago:
It’s like asking a computer in sleep mode to run a screen saver and pretending close-to-random images are result of a rational creative process. Sleeping brain work differently, for a reason. At that point they should put money on AI to improve awake productivity. Programming during lucid dreams is a scam
- Comment on I remember getting a PS3 just to avoid this back then 11 months ago:
Steam deck is the best option for cost/value
- Comment on Lucid dream startup says engineers can write code in their sleep. Work may never be the same 11 months ago:
This is really a scam. A sleeping engineer cannot code in his dreams. This is not how the human body works. This guy is trying to scam ignorant venture capitals

I do workshop and professional courses only nowadays without any final test. I cannot stand the whole exams, assignments thing anymore. I did too much and I am old enough that I am a peer to professors. And I used to teach at university…
I like to learn, I don’t have time to waste in all the evaluation/marking BS.

From statistics murders of women are actually less common than, let’s say, US, UK or Germany.
But it is still present and a recent a murder re opened the discussions
- Comment on How do you manage code snippets? 11 months ago:
I create proper libraries. I don’t do snippets because they make code dirty, redundant and difficult to read on the long run.
I actively discourage people in my team to use snippets copy and pasted everywhere themselves. If it’s reusable code, it should be usable by everyone and well tested

- Comment on Parents Sue Gaming Companies Over ‘Video Game Addiction’, Because That’s Easier Than Parenting 11 months ago:
I won’t read the article with such a stupid title.
In other situations they call it victim shaming. There is a reason laws exists to forbid gambling for minors. Many video games are built as loopholes to circumvent such laws. Publishers and producers must be punished for this. Parenting is not a relevant topic here, as we are talking about society.
In a society the distribution of parenting capabilities has large variability, and it does not always depends on the parent itself, but on environmental factors (such as work-related stressors).
As society we need to fight any predatory business model that exploits society and individuals weaknesses.

It does sense indeed. But it also means AI has become very good in matching our expectations
