- Comment on Resticity - a cross-platform frontend for restic 8 months ago:
I tried it and it didn’t work well for me (can’t remember why, it was awhile ago).
- Comment on Resticity - a cross-platform frontend for restic 8 months ago:
Looks great. I’ll probably wait for a flatpak and try it out.
I’ve already automated Restic with bash scripts and systemd timers but… used to use Vorta with Borg and did like having a GUI.

The owner must immediately remove road salt? The rust belt is nothing but 3 piles of road salt in a trench coat for half the year…
- Comment on Everyone makes incest jokes about Adam and Eve and their children but they never mention that there was another woman named Lilith (Adam's first wife) who would have added variance to the gene pool. 9 months ago:

5 minutes after every computer boot to a NAS. Then nightly from the NAS to the cloud.
- Comment on Microsoft is adding a new key to PC keyboards for the first time since 1994 10 months ago:
We’re in the early hype phase of a new innovation fad. It’ll die down and then we’ll find out what it’s ACTUALLY useful for.
- Comment on Has google stopped working for finding anything? 10 months ago:
I came to the exact same decision a few months ago.
DDG used to be worse; now it’s better.
- Comment on Why is alcohol measured in percentages? 10 months ago:
Yes but I figured a pretty good approximation. I’m actually curious how much of a difference it would actually make.
- Comment on Why is alcohol measured in percentages? 10 months ago:
Which is basically the same since 1g of water is 1ml.
- Comment on Access home server from anywhere 11 months ago:
Wireguard is just much faster connection-wise. Built into the kernel too.
Nothing wrong with openvpn otherwise.
Something like Tailscale makes wireguard setup dead easy.
- Comment on Access home server from anywhere 11 months ago:
It’s just so easy.
Headscale if you want to self host.

Interface is riddled with stuff that isn’t on my local network.
I just want something to manage the stuff on my local network!
- Comment on Microsoft won’t let you close OneDrive on Windows until you explain yourself 1 year ago:
Same. I was so annoyed with windows slow, useless search at work (I search for pdfs all day) I just wrote a Python program that does that job much, much better.
- Comment on Microsoft won’t let you close OneDrive on Windows until you explain yourself 1 year ago:
Or until you give up on the bullshit and just install Linux already (me 5 years ago).
- Comment on What I just learned about restoring BorgBackups 1 year ago:

I get 5 Chinese spam calls a day… since turning on live voicemail they’ve mostly stopped, and the ones that make it through get deleted without me listening to them.
I LOVE the feature.
- Comment on Server Hardware? 1 year ago:
I started on a raspberry pi and would highly recommend. Great for tons of things to self host.
- Comment on Server Hardware? 1 year ago:
Great as a NAS but pretty low specced for hosting many more demanding applications for the cost.
I run Plex on mine but was faster on a raspberry pi 3 lol.
For file management, backups, etc. It’s stellar.

And they’re very likely way too short
- Comment on My new favourite password manager 1 year ago:
Just depends what you use for syncing since keepass doesn’t sync itself.
Syncthing is obviously popular.
