They increased prices this year too. It used to be $150/yr, it’s now $200/yr.

Thanks for using yearly cost. Too many people look at monthly costs and think “well that’s not too bad”

“Only 50 cents a day!”

To be fair, I’m only quoting what their marketing material sent me as a subscriber.

This is why OP and others are being downgraded. They were grandfathered into the old price at the warning that they would have a downgraded experience in the future, and right now is the future.

$200/year?? Who’s paying that?
Cheesus@lemmy.world 1 year ago
I would. I didn’t have HBO growing up so I missed out on so much of their TV shows. I got it 2 years ago and had no issue paying $300 for 2 years. Got to watch a lot of shows I always wanted to watch. It doesn’t have a big enough catalog to keep me subscribing for a 3rd year.

Wow, shrinkflation even in digital content.

In upset too, their little “teehe but it’s okay our prices haven’t changed” is so scummy. I’m having difficult justifying another the +$5/m for 4K- ya know something I already had. These services are pricing themselves out of the market.

For real. They just lost my business.

Next thing you know, there’s going to be a new release tier for an extra $5 a month and your standard, hd, no ads plan will be basically what we had with cable tv 15 years ago. Full circle
Candybar121@lemmy.world 1 year ago
thats so incredibly stupid i can see someone doing it
doublejay1999@lemmy.world 1 year ago
It’s the cycle.
Cable basically had everything on lock. With broadband internet, they left themselves a bit exposed. New entrants to the market saw a chance to buy their way in.
It takes a load of dough, but eventually you win customers with low prices. If you can sustain the losses for long enough, you force out competition.
When the competition is gone, the they have the lock, and put prices up and reduce quality until they are making money.

I have a glitch where Max thinks I’m paying my provider but I don’t have an active subscription with my provider. Happened after the max name change. Been enjoying free for about a year now. I’m wondering which tier I’ll get or if the glitch will fix itself.

that is amazing, enjoy that my friend

Cancel. They don't deserve your business. They keep making worse and worse decisions that are more and more anti-consumer. Don't give them your money. Don't reward this behavior.
Candybar121@lemmy.world 1 year ago
absolutely agree.

No, you’re being downvoted because your post suggests that you basically reward them by not leaving. That their scummy change doesn’t affect you is lucky for you, but don’t ‘gloat’ in a topic where the TS is saying it does affect them.
You know, empathy? Or at least show some solidarity.

Drop the subscription services because they will do anything to extract as much money from you while providing you the least amount of content possible.
