- Comment on I replaced a $120/year micro-SaaS in 20 minutes with LLM-generated code 1 week ago:
ive been buildin 'solutions' like this for 30 years. what the llms have done is reduce my time to maybe a few minutes, and lowers the barrier to entry to the technically ignorant.
lowering that barrier still leaves a non-insignificant portion who want it bundled up and handed to them with a bow on it. plenty of people are happy to pay for a supported product and have no desire to attempt resolving the underlying issue/resource themselves.

but zmodem can totally restart an interrupted tx!
- Comment on How do you effectively backup your high (20+ TB) local NAS? 1 week ago:
entire nas (~24TB used) is replicated to another nas in another building (2 actually). i like having 3 copies.

- Comment on Microsoft is adding image support to Notepad on Windows 11 2 weeks ago:
microsoft proving they are incapable of solid product design. how can such a giant company completely fuck up the most basic application ever to be used by people ever, the text editor.
the app has one job, and it aint images

- Comment on Is there any limit to the amount of instances to federate with? 2 weeks ago:
traffic volume is already a serious consideration, but theroetically its what you request. its not like an instance comes up and suddenly needs to interact with 500 other servers.
if you on your personal instance decide you need to subscribe to thousands of communities on thousands of servers... isnt that kinda on you? i mean.. how could you personally ever expect to consume that volume?
if youre on a community instance and the instance itself is drawing a metric fuckton of traffic.. scale up. the good platforms will scale.
that said, ive kinda tried to sub to every server i can find just for giggles... it 'pre-loads' the content on my instant for new users in the 'newest' queues.
there are mitigations you can put in place for rate-limiting other servers also.. your server would just fall farther and farther behind
personally, i think it scales better than other options. bluesky doesnt scale at all

thank conservatives for pushing the cost of raw goods up, lowering margins.

im runnin 3 sets of 6x4TB. cheap.
i wouldnt use apple products if they paid me, so ya got me there
- Comment on What's up with "Plex Servers"? 5 weeks ago:
first, id like to say.. fuck plex. friends dont let friends use plex.
that said, im the guy youre talkin about. i have a massive personal video library i push into a front-end that i share with friends and family.. even some coworkers.
the fact is, storage is very cheap now... throw in the very mature applications for obtaining/servicing the stuff stored therein it becomes trivial for guys like me to spread the wealth.
data hoarders like me are people that dont appreciate having to rely on other people for our shit.. streaming? only from our own servers. there are lots of us

i never read bill as a 'behind the scenes' guy...hes shown on screen from scene 1.

i think its interesting to try and link 2 pieces by a single actor, but its a a stretch.. youll need more than just her

i would counter your opinion about those pieces exposes more about you than quentin.
the only thing they have in common is 'female holding weapon', and if thats all you need for 'same vibe'...
- Comment on Kill Bill and Charlies Angel have the same vibes, almost like Kill Bill is just a Rated R version of the Charlies Angel movie. 5 weeks ago:
i think quentin might have a problem with this comparison. i personally dont think they have the same vibe.
one is a gritty, bloody take of a group of thugs offing each other for being the dicks they are.
the other is a fisher-price police/crime procedural with the cops replaced by hot chicks.
