- Comment on I grew up in the era of Photoshop and people would post fake nudes. Why is it now a big deal that AI is doing it? Kinda like the Taylor Swift thing on twitter. 2 months ago:
i think its 'barrier to entry'
photoshop took skills that not everyone has/had keeping the volume low.
these new generators require zero skill or technical ability so anyone can do it

i totally did not want to hate waffle house. i eat garbage all the time. i fight the dog for food. i did not see it coming..
after a few decades of wanting to try it i finally go to waffle house. first of all, no pancakes?! they are fucking strict on that waffle thing. and then what i did order was just barely edible food. just awful.
i grew up haunting dennys, which is now quite expensive for no reason.

im a fast food junkie. i love the shit. covid completely changed the landscape and subsequently my habits. my blacklist is getting longer and longer. quality across the board has plummeted while prices increased.
before covid i only had one entry; wafflehouse

depends on what kind of contribution you would like to make. i think they're mostly looking for development and documentation help.
there are some great links from the main github; https://github.com/MbinOrg/mbin including the matrix channels
- Comment on what happened to kbin? 2 months ago:
its a community. anyone can generate a pr, code it up and it gets discussed. so far there has been no crazy drama about what to include or not.. no one has proffered any incompatible ideas. its been quite pleasant
its all public though, in the matrix or github channels
- Comment on what happened to kbin? 2 months ago:
youre not wrong, they spent a lot of time refactoring things, and still are.
that said, the list of changes in the last several versions is very long, and the code base is no longer trivially similar. looking through the waiting prs, there are a lot of interesting bits like extending microblog AP connectivity (tag handling).
the mbin guys have been pumping out releases steadily since the fork, including implementing managed documentation and version numbering. it has well exceeded kbin at this stage.
theyre prepping for a 1.7 release soon. when was the last kbin update? to me, theres only one stale project here.
- Comment on what happened to kbin? 2 months ago:
I think it might be time for the Mbin team to start getting a little more free with the fork.
eh? what do you mean?
- Comment on what happened to kbin? 2 months ago:
the original developer mentioned handing off the site/project to other people due to personal issues but that was like a month ago.
this is part of the reason it was forked to mbin. the risk of a project being managed by a single person instead of a community is very real.
it seems dead, but i like to remember there would be no mbin without kbin

from what ive read/watched thats the crux of the issue.... did they push a 'content' update, i.e. signatures or did they push a code update.
so you basically had a bunch of companies who absolutely do test all vendor code updates beings slipped a code update they werent aware of being labeled a 'content' update.

no
- Comment on Survey shows most people wouldn't pay extra for AI-enhanced hardware | 84% of people said no 2 months ago:
what they mean is that they are putting in dedicated processors or other hardware just to run an LLM . it doesnt speed up anything other than the faux-AI tool they are implementing.
LLMs require a ton of math that is better suited to video processors than the general purpose cpu on most machines.

my favorite is the factory analogy. giant machine the size of a football field breaks, will not run. they call in the engineering expert who spends 2 hours eyeballing the machine, when he takes out a tiny screwdriver and turns a single screw counterclockwise 1 turn. the machine bursts to life.
he hands the factory owner a bill for 10,000$.
the factory owner says 'thats preposterous, im not paying that for one turn of a screw'
the engineer scribbles on the paper;
tuning screw 1.00$
knowing which screw to turn 9,999.00$ - Comment on Any MythTV Users Here? 3 months ago:

in the movie the weird black rectangles started appearing in jupiters atmosphere. it might have had something to do with the aliens creating a sun for europa, which had some kind of organic life on it
