I always find the phrasing of “effective immediately…” to sound a bit hostile, but I hope the transition is smooth.

Slightly better “this happened weeks ago but we’re just now getting around to updating everyone”.

And that’s slightly better than “this happened weeks ago but we’re just now getting around to updating everyone because we were trying to hide the fact that we had a leadership change”.

“Effective immediately.” = Hostile, forceful.
“Effective yesterday.” = Mysterious, invites questions, makes you sound like a time-traveler.

Sounds solid. People’s priorities change.

this one’s got me nervous, yall
louloukoutsis@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 month ago
Sounds like the rest of the team will continue so it should be similar? Seems like they just didn’t have the time anymore due to other life commitments.
turdburglar@piefed.social 1 month ago
i mean, i have all my fingers crossed.

The linked post is fairly positive. I’m not too worried - we’re probably gonna see an uptick in user friendliness.

Looks like someone bidding farewell via a military salute? 🫡 o7

A_norny_mousse@piefed.zip 1 month ago I never understood why they don’t support the subsonic protocol. There’s no native Jellyfin app for my OS, so I changed to Navidrome.
Also, my server is still PHP-free and I’d like to keep it that way.

I never understood why they don’t support the subsonic protocol.
I mean… you might as well ask why the DLNA plugin has been broken for years. Or why they don’t add a custom HTTP header to the client app so people can lock access in their reverse proxy.
As usual it’s a mix of not enough developer manpower and “I don’t use that so it’s not a priority” i.e. the whimsies of FOSS.

Jellyfin is written in C#.
A_norny_mousse@piefed.zip 1 month ago Huh. yeah, no PHP anywhere. Sorry, no idea where that idea came from.
curbstickle@anarchist.nexus 1 month ago
What phone do you have that the jellyfin app and the jellyamp app are unavailable?
A_norny_mousse@piefed.zip 1 month ago Thanks but I’m happy with Navidrome.

Not the person you’re responding to but if I wanted to turn an old Asus MeMO Pad 7 into something I could stream from my PC with, would you advise me to install Postmarket OS, LineageOS, something else?
brickfrog@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 month ago
Jelllyfin + Subfin (github.com/williamkray/subfin-plugin) works well, I’ve been using it with the OpenSubsonic Android apps listed in www.navidrome.org/apps/?platform=android&api=open… without issue. e.g. Substreamer, Tempus, Airdrome, etc. all work fine with Jellyfin + Subfin.
I’m guessing you’re not on Android since Jellyfin has an Android app, but you should be able to use any Subsonic/OpenSubsonic app once set up with the plugin.
A_norny_mousse@piefed.zip 1 month ago Thanks, it’s good to know that this exists as a plugin.
Chaphasilor@lemmy.ml 1 month ago
So to answer your question: OpenSubsonic is only for music, and Jellyfin does much more than music. Adopting OpenSubsonic would mean maintaining two APIs, which doesn’t make a lot of sense.
Meanwhile Navidrome is adding Jellyfin API compatibility to get access to more clients :P

TL; DR all the oldest members who’ve already not really been contributing because they’ve moved on in their lives have officially handed the reins to the people actually doing the work.
femtek@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 month ago
Glad to hear, the ones doing the work now will get more recognition and the one leaving can do more of what they want. Hopefully they had a good handoff.
Chivera@lemmy.world 1 month ago
Thank you.

We should celebrate these kinds of changes. Like its great that they’ve already achieved so much and not just that, but left behind a group of folks just as committed in the future of the project.
