I started migrating last night. You have to stop your running instances, copy over the yaml and change the volume mounts if you used named volumes.

They want to be a competitor to openshift and rancher.

I set it up years ago when I still had Ubuntu desktop running on an old laptop. Just kept using it even after using and learning kubernetes at work on an enterprise scale. Also the automatic image checks, easy to check metrics, logs, and endpoints. I have 33 containers right now, it’s just simple to see them all in one screen.

I use 100% kubernetes at work and help other teams get their app working but at home I don’t run anything that supports it.

That’s what I’m going to try out first, looks nice and simple and I just got voidauth working too so oidc support would be nice.

I had no formal training in hosting when I started. What got me started was, dating myself, blockbuster going out of business and getting over 1000 dvds over the course of their downfall and wanting a better way to watch a movie than going thru a big binder. Found Plex eventually, then built a server from an old workstation and a couple hdds. Then docker and automation, that did get me in the door for my current kubernetes job, now I’m starting to get kubernetes setup at home with 3 mini PCs.

I think Republicans will love it if Saudi uses religion to say what can be made.

Yeah, I gave my dad my old pixel and put a launcher on it, locked down the settings so it wouldn’t get accidentally changed to small fonts and just had a few apps, phone, text, email, door dash. That worked except the time he forgot to charge it but I think he knew I would come over more when I couldn’t call him.

If it’s just to make calls I would go used android, big screen and a special launcher that simplifies it and makes text big for typing in numbers. I see the Bluetooth landline phone things have bad reviews but most are from 4 years ago and say to go SIP if you want an actual handset.

I’ll have to give that a look. I spun up immich to replace Google photos but I can’t fully switch over till I have them in a cloud backup. Everything else is config/docker files that are small.

Backup as a zip? Small files warped up in one big file. Only backup what you can’t restore from somewhere else. I think B2 can ship you a HDD to restore from if I remember correctly.

Glad to hear, the ones doing the work now will get more recognition and the one leaving can do more of what they want. Hopefully they had a good handoff.

There is still transcoding done thru the server, maybe depending on the app but the ones that use livekit it would.

Hosting costs money, maybe if you disable voice, video, uploads, and only allowed text it would be manageable but discord is free. I run my own chat server but it’s only for like 10 people.

Autofill, easy sync, password generation, browser extension, mobile app, ease of use to name a few.

I went to a tech convention and a rancher dev had a demo backpack with a 5 node kubernetes cluster and I really wanted it. Just to have fun in a weird nerd sense.
