In July 2024, running a Relay on ATProto already required 1 terabyte of storage. But more alarmingly, just a four months later in November 2024, running a relay now requires approximately 5 terabytes of storage. That is a nearly 5x increase in just four months, and my guess is that by next month, we’ll see that doubled to at least ten terabytes due to the massive switchover to Bluesky which has happened post-election. As Bluesky grows in popularity, so does the rate of growth of the expected resources to host a meaningfully participating node.

I live in the EU and I was there when they were introduced, the most I heard from my normie family and friends was confusion on how to drink now, but they quickly learned and haven’t said a word about it since. The only complaints I’ve heard is online, and that makes me think that it isn’t real. Even the most conservative, environmental-hating relatives hasn’t complained about them.

It’s not decentralized though. The way it’s written requires you to host everything in bluesky along with everything on your own instance to be fully autonomous. That makes it impossible for normal people to host it. Even smaller companies can’t host it. Only companies can.

I feel like the greatest risk of weed is the inability to check for it in a breathalyzer, and that the world run on cars. Drugs, like alcohol and weed, makes you a worse driver, but there is no way to check if a person is under the influence.
