It’s certainly a derogatory term, but not for the poor.
Do a search on the Internet for the implications.
You back and hallucinating about this again? Chav is not about money. It’s about behaviour.
That’s because the US is not just classist but also racist. The hatred is coded through the language of racial hatred, but you’ll notice these oppressed/hated minorities are also kept excluded and impoverished. UK doesn’t have as much racial diversity, so it’s only classism for them.
UK doesn’t have as much racial diversity
😆 Oh, you’re being serious. 🤣
It’s true. I’ve noticed a lot of British people have no idea what a multicultural country is like. It’s the same reason they ask things like, “Why do Americans say they’re Irish?” Yeah, it’s because people are treated differently based on a class system assigned at birth.
Laughs in Welsh, Irish, Scottish, and Roma.
This is the thing about the UK. There was an idea going about that the English oppressed the Scottish and the Irish, but in reality it was just the rich oppressing the poor. The rich Scottish lords also oppressed the Scottish poor (eg, highland clearances) and I guess with Ireland, it was a mixture of the fact it was under developed so everyone was poor and anti-catholic sentiment. I think people making it about race nowadays are just people being anachronistic
Chav doesn’t mean poor. A Chav is the obnoxious self entitled type that wants to be trouble. Picture a younger “Karen” but with more energy and probably sports ware or clubbing outfit
There was even a whole site called “chavscum” where people would take/upload photos of random poor people without their consent and mock them in the comments
Oh, that’s bad.
When i was in secondary school rich priviliged kids would pretend to be chavs/gangsters for some reason. Many have said the same thing back on reddit.
I agree with other comments that chavs aren’t specifically poor people but rather “criminally inclined” people, notoriously antisocial people. Nontheless some people do just extrapolate their chav hate to hatred of the poor.
It is literally like the British people do not see poor people as human.
I would argue that this is impossible. You see, most british people are “poor” in terms of their disposable income - wages and salaries are notoriously low in this country - so if you don’t dress and act like a chav there’s not really anything distinguishing you from a rich person.
Oh for fucks sake, not this again. 🙄
Our society is rooted in classism
😂 it’s been a while. I thought you gave up on this.

Hey just fyi chav does not equal poor. It is equivalent to the words hoodilum or gangster. In my experience at least chav is reserved for the men who are proud to be under educated inner city youths with a penchance for stabbings and petty crime.

This is also my understanding of “chav” from English and Scottish friends and relatives.
