It was hella dumb that they only had ONE person certified to use the fork lift or powered jacks when I worked at Walmart. I literally came to that job from another job where I was a forklift operator, but they had their own certification program and never wanted to certify anyone.
Please, my son... He's sick...

Never understood this. It seems like more of an insurance risk for a company to say, “no no, we provide our own certificate training here”. Now when someone fucks up they can say “I was operating the lift following Wal-Mart’s training protocols” and they have to show their shit is proper rather than just pointing the finger at OSHA or whoever.

Van driver shows up.
“Hey do you guys have a dock or a ramp?”
The pallet jack is offered as a sacrificial lamb.
The van driver curses and groans and sadly takes the offered pallet jack.

Funnily enough, the jack was on the lift because we needed to unload a 16 wheeler with crates in the back.

Now is the time to strike while the iron is hot.
Tomorrow,
“Hey boss, after unloading that truck yesterday with the pallet jack, my back is really sore. If it doesn’t ease up I might need to go to the doctor today.”
Next safety meeting/safety suggestion box in a week or two.
“I really think the company should invest in electric pallet jacks. They are not that expensive and will cut down on potential lower back injuries.”

Germans call it Ameise (ant), Czechs call it ještěrka (lizard)… Any other languages with animal names for these?

The Elves call it El-galad (starlight ascending). The Orcs call it Sharku Grom (old man cradle).

I was there 3000 years ago. I was there the day the strength of fork lifts failed.
