I can’t be the only person to find it a bit mental that police have grenades, right?

There is a reason to have them, for SWAT (or whatever regional equivalent). They are useful for non-lethal assault of violent targets. If, for example, some terrorists decide to take some hostages, that’s where they should be used.

They should not be bringing them to a protest though. That’s not the place for them, and the officers should be fired and the department investigated for misconduct.

Sounds like a great way to turn a protest into a fucking violent riot

this is nuts. its and explosive and a hard casing outside of the rubber. I mean even with out the casing it would be dangerous but with it its crazy dangerous. I mean I would not want to be shot with a shotgun that was full of hard plastic bits.

Okay so “stinger” is apparently a type of rubber bullet grenade.

    Not that kind of stinger

Main use seems to be to cause confusion?

As an American, I would like to know, is there any place in the world where the police haven’t gone full fascist?

    • makingStuffForFun@lemmy.ml ⁨1⁩ ⁨hour⁩ ago

This is Melbourne. Australia’s most fascist state. It’s abhorrent.

The function of the police is to enact the violence of the state and thus by proxy, capital. Hence, police are by definition always at least some degree of fascist.

So far the police forces in Finland, Norway and Sweden seems less bad than most.

Yeah, who would have guessed that the Vikings would end up being the most civilized culture on the planet.
