Dropping the first bit of proper news on Steam since early 2024 after the release of Battlefield 6 is certainly a choice
Not a terrible one. 4 people can play this game for less than the price of one person playing Battlefield 6. You can capture everyone that’s on a budget or can’t play BF6 due to Secure Boot requirements.

Alive is a strong word (I think the master servers were fucked a few days ago?) but here is hoping.
The reality is that Battlebit has no chance in a world where people, miraculously, like Battlefield again. But I actually REALLY liked it and preferred its balance and TTK. And it might be the only game where I have ever enjoyed proximity chat (with pubs) since that, combined with dragging wounded folk, just works so well for both drama and hilarity.
As someone who genuinely likes the Battlefield series (and has said in many a chat “do not play Conquest. It is shit. Play Rush”) and is REALLY annoyed that EA are so anti-Linux… Battlebit is easily up there with BC2 and BF3 in terms of being one of the most genuinely fun and balanced BFs.

Couldn’t have said it better. Battlebit revived gaming for me after not playing an online shooter since Battlefield 4.
Hopefully when winter rolls around I can get back to it!

Did we play the same Battlebit? I don’t remember much positivity coming out of proximity voice chat. Every match started with a flood of VOIP spam of screaming and loud, shitty music. It seems without fail, I’d spend the first 15 seconds of every match muting everyone that appeared in comms. At least the devs made that super easy.
Battlebit filled the hole I needed it to while I avoided BF2042; quite fun, but the population died off and it started feeling stale.
I might look into the update when it hits, but with a worth-playing new-release Battlefield, I’ll probably just stick to Battlefield.

Been a bit. Maybe I turned off overall comms but left proximity voice on? That sounds like something I would do?
But I dunno. Put in apparently 30 hours. There were definitely people playing music and chewing loudly but I more noticed it when they were giving their squads away and letting me get my ambush on. Aside from that it was just fun stuff like people going full Peewee Herman after getting shot or talking about spam musubi while the world around us was exploding before the enemy push.

Yeah the spaming at the start of the match is fairly common, but you just press f1-3 to mute the current people yelling and boom, never have to listen to them again. For the rest of the match at least.

If Battlebit’s performance is good for the Steam Deck, I think I would get back into it easily
