I ran into a online file transfer site last week that was apparently run or owned by likewire. Was really surprised.

Well “Creep” by STP if you’re gonna be correct about it. I was mostly joking that this is how I first got to know this song via limewire as did a lot of people before Youtube.

The other day I had an ad on Spotify even though I pay for premium and I felt so offended I’ve been seriously considering this but with a couple SSDs…
RisingSwell@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 weeks ago
That’s about my limit with stuff. If I pay for ad free and then I get an ad from the people I paid to not see ads, the flag hoists again.
I can afford it easily so I’d rather pay, but I’m not dealing with ads.

If you’ve got a spare PC or one that’s always online, you can host something like Jellyfin for yourself. Make your own streaming service.

download your playlists and start your own media server (jellyfin or the like) :)

Didn’t know that was possible, I’ll look into it. Thanks! 👍

I can’t be bothered to tinker with that stuff. I need someone to offer me a flatpak

what can’t you just self host your own Spotify and use vpn to access your music remotely ?
bulwark@lemmy.world 3 weeks ago
Viruses, as far as the eye can see.
Karjalan@lemmy.world 3 weeks ago

Good thing they don’t work on audio CD. Worst you’ll get is annoying clicks and beeps.

Writing all the songs on the disc is amateur hour. You cant look at them while it’s playing to skip to the right track unless you know the CD perfectly.
It’s better to write it on the insert, even if it means you have to keep it in the case and not in a CD wallet
lunarul@lemmy.world 3 weeks ago
If you buy and keep your CDs in a cake box, then on the disc is the only place to write things.

I introduced my wife to Funkwhale, and she’s been ripping all of her old CDs from high school.
Not only did she not label all of the CDs, some of them were mixes from friends that had surprise mystery tracks added in as a joke.
In one case, she had a ska band cover of a song from Rocky Horror that even Shazam couldn’t identify.

Thanks for tipping me off to this! Gonna check it out for sure!
