  Someone knocked on my door, asking if I had seen a missing person. I hadn’t. I asked if I could join the search, they told me where to go to volunteer.

  Long story short: They handed me a high-visibility vest with their logo on to wear. I had to return it.

  I was. We walked around aimlessly in the forest, occasionally yelling out the missing girl’s name. Then it turned out to be a drill and the girl was fine. We were yelled at for being shit searchers, and were told that she’d be dead if it was real. I thought it was an extremely unreasonable thing to do, because we were just a bunch of teenagers on a camping trip and nobody had ever told us how to do a proper grid search so how the fuck were we supposed to know how to do it? It was a surreal experience.

  Anyway we were mostly dressed in what we wore into our sleeping bags because we were pulled out of our tents in the middle of the night.

  Just my regular heavy duty working clothes. Tbf, was working as a SAR paramedic back then,so…it was just another Monday.

  Yeah, when a friend’s daughter went missing. Whole neighborhood was out looking for her. She ended up being found chilling with some cows. She was like 4yo lol.

  Dress code: stomping around in the woods. Boots, heavy pants, long socks.

  In high school, my entire grade was “invited” to search for a missing junior high student. The dress code was “wear your gym clothes so you don’t ruin your regular clothes while tramping through the woods.”

  Sadly, we didn’t find her.
