Nah, more like those idiots who thought the human body could not survive going like 2km/h in a moving vehicle.
Future generations will look at people who fear AI/Robots the same as how we today view people who fear other races/ethnicities

Yeah was going to say, there’s certainly aversion to tech that can be paralleled assuming AI has a positive future state. But yeah, WIFI, Cellphones, television, radio waves, all things people feared without propor understanding, that are now standard parts of reality.
If hypothetically AI etc… gets close to actual sentience, artificial life may begin the culture war of attempting for personhood, fight for rights etc… in which case there will be a discussion, and assuming like all past personhood battles in the end AI is decided to have reached actual status of living… then yes those who are late to the bandwaggon and continuing to fight will be viewed just like our racists homophobes etc… But there is very little evidence that any current day AI has anything resembling feelings, wants desires etc… and just because this may be the predicessor to an AI that will. doesn’t make hating chatgpt any worse than hating a doorbell.

Very few paranoiacs feared wifi… By that point generations were used to RF tech. That was just those folks who don’t know how anything works, so always think the worst.

Future generations will look at people who think AI/Robots are humans as the gullible useful idiots they are.

Gen AI is, for the most part, weighted random number generation. It does not think/feel/suffer the consequences of racism.
Absolutely wild racist take.

I think it is more accurate to fear the transition. Economically speaking, there will be turbulence. We have already seen some companies try to eliminate all their employees and replace them with AI. But we have already been here before. I work in railroading, and in the 80s they all got rid of huge portions of their employees by replacing them with computers. Those people found new jobs, and some of them fell on hard times, while some made out better. There are whole industries that were completely transformed due to technology changes in the past forty years. But it wasn’t the end of the world. It was just turbulent for some.
So for me, I’m not worried, but I am weary. I welcome AI as a new tool for humans to use. I just don’t welcome poor decision making from shareholders and shitty management.

What I fear more than the tech is the idea that when most jobs are replaced with it, people will still be expected to find work somehow.

That’s the difference between capitalism and socialism.
In a socialist country, the profits generated by automation would just go to the people, since they own the means of production.
Even a social democratic country is still tolerable given enough UBI, universal socialized healthcare, free education including university, etc…
Capitalist countries without regulations and UBI are totally fucked. I expect riots happening throughout the world. Every country would have their own Tiananamen Square Massacre.

And we have seen how great socialist countries work, every single time was a huge success with benefits for everyone…

Eventually. Maybe they will feat it for different reasons as well.
I’ve been trying to highlight the benefits of using AI to some folks at work. Some get very scared of it because they don’t want to be replaced by AI. Bruh, if your job can already be replaced by AI, maybe it’s not a very stimulating job?
Opinionhaver@feddit.uk 4 days ago
I’ve been saying this for a long time. If a robot / AI can do your job just as well as you can if not even better - it probably should.

Future generations will look at people who think there will be sapient general AI the same as how we today view people who thought there would be a microfiche machine in every home by now.
Onomatopoeia@lemmy.cafe 4 days ago
Well… There is a microfiche in every home/pocket, of a sort. 😁
But I take your point, we’re pretty bad at predicting what tomorrow will look like.
Opinionhaver@feddit.uk 4 days ago
I’m curious to hear your reasoning that makes you so confidently suggest we’ll never reach AGI that is consciouss?
