What’s your favorite anime for hot summer nights and why?
Crank@ani.social 2 days ago Call of the Night - the whole show is just pure vibes, and it portrays the nighttime in a unique way. Watching it after it gets dark enhances the experience. It’s even better if you have a thing for vampires
The first one to come to mind was mushishi, super calm and unique.
So many suggestions, yet no one mentiones Chihayafuru?
Higurashi When They Cry is the first thing that comes to mind for me when I think of summer heat, nights and screaming cicadas
Leg@sh.itjust.works 1 day ago Seconding this. Peak summer anime.
Besides the obvious “summer” theming, I really liked The Summer Hikaru Died for being one of the only horror manga to still be good once made into an anime.
Master@sh.itjust.works 1 day ago ive tried and I just cant get into it. I know some people who really like it but I guess its just not for me.
Kolanaki@pawb.social 2 days ago I discovered Inuyasha only because I find it hard to sleep when its hot and it would play on Adult Swim at like 2am.
It’s winter for me at the moment but I adore Call of the Night for the wild midnight vibes and also Insomniacs after Dark cause it’s cozy as.
Gonna check that one out, thanks!
I just started that too! Just finished episode 3 last night. I don’t see how it fits summer nights but I’m happy u got the vibes figured out.
Honestly, I might be interpreting many scenes that way, because I watched it during a hot dinner night for the first time, now that I think about it
It’s hard to explain, but these either are good to watch on a hot summer night or have sceneries that evoke a hot summer night.
Evangelion and End of Evangelion
Chainsaw Man
Fullmetal Alchemist
Bocchi the Rock
Perfect Blue
Your Name
Spy x Family
The Tatami Galaxy
Nana
Madoka Magica
Summertime Render
Nagi no Asu kara has that refreshing sea theme.
Kowloon
Kowloon Generic Romance?
that was great, I went straight to the manga after it finished.
Not generic at all, it’s a wild ride, fans of Lain would probably love it.
Yes, this one. The name is very misleading, indeed. I liked it a lot, particularly the beginning of it.
Looks interesting, thanks!

Steins;Gate one of the very characters itself is the hot oppressing city and there is this constant sound of cicadas in so many shots that keep this feeling of summer throughout all while being a really really good character piece of what insanity looks like.
I also really love Anohana but thats more about nostalgia and making me cry.

I actually still use that as an alarm song, cause science says you wake up better to songs you like and I LOVE Secret Base

Steins;Gate has been recommended to me a few times, but I couldn’t get into it, last time I tried. Maybe it’s time to try once more

gotta break through the first half of the show to really wake up.

I once wrote what I think was a really good definition of the show’s theme.
But to boil it down, the character at the heart is supposed to be having a hard time reality, and that slow spin of the web that he has to undo isnt supposed to feel fun but require our character to go through hell and back to figure out who he is.
Also if I can recommend, watch it in japanese, they get the ages of the voices a lot better.
