Best collab I’ve seen yet. It’s legit a full Gintama skit and half of an entire Gintama episode. 10/10

Akebi-chan no Sailor Fuku
Glad you liked it! It was the other way around for me. My interest in The Fragrant Flower Blooms With Dignity began because (1) people were hyping up on how good the manga is and (2) the Akebi staff is working on it.
My first reaction on seeing the poster is “the female MC [Kaoruko] looks like a grown-up Akebi Kao”. There are some stylistic similarities. I could also say that KaoruHana has the Akebi art style without the Akebi mangaka’s weird facial proportions.

Live molave reaction to Summer 2025
Summer 2025 is the strongest since Winter 2018 (with #2 best Violet Evergarden, #4 best A Place Further Than The Universe, and Yuru Camp), and the strongest since I started serially watching anime (Winter 2022). It’s got:
Takopi’s Original Sin - my new best anime. I never thought anything could upstage Violet.
My Dress Up Darling S2, The Fragrant Flower Blooms With Dignity, and Rascal Does Not Dream of Santa Claus - Cloverworks trifecta, all highly-regarded and some of the studio’s best output yet!
Baan - It’s… really good, given it’s an indie production that Gigguk bankrolled
Dan Da Dan S2
The Summer Hikaru Died
Call of the Night S2
Grand Blue S2
Silent Witch
Again, can I glaze some more on KaoruHana and MDUD?
While I had to ground my expectations on KaoruHana, they knock it out of the park with episode after episode. My gut tells me Cloverworks was cooking something the moment I saw its poster, simply because it’s got the same artistic quality as Akebi’s Sailor Uniform. I can’t glaze that one enough either as it’s one of the best-looking works in all anime. Unfortunately, the studio had to cut corners in KaoruHana, but they didn’t where it mattered. And in those scenes, they matched and exceeded anything the staff put out in Akebi, multiple times, in each episode. I’m as happy as Kaoruko there. Yay also for the romance iyashikei story it tells.
Bocchified MDUD is not in my bingo. It has OP of the season no doubt, and I think it’s the perfect way to adapt the series.
Other nonseasonal highlights I watched during Summer 2025:
Lost in Starlight - Insterstellar-esque mature romance story with nigh-flawless execution with the Shinkai art style I’m biased in favor of. 10/10
Redline and Promare - acid trips of watches there. Would recommend. Both 9/10
The Dangers in My Heart - the chemistry between the MCs is off the charts. Part of the reason why the story of KaoruHana felt more mundane to me, lol. 10/10. Best romance strictly because of the romance. I have higher-ranked romances but it’s because of other things. BokuYaba, for instance, is just below Your Lie in April because the latter’s drama is so good and it impacted me in a personal way.

Are anime-original episodes considered filler too? Because the last episode of Makeine is anime-original, though the author wrote the story.
And there’s also The Promised Neverland S2 and Wonder Egg Priority, from what I remember.

It’s overrated, but it’s more than a good intro to anime for a child. Growing up, I really liked it. Looking back, it’s not groundbreaking as far as anime as concerned. Also, it was all downhill after the Pain Arc.

I would have put Shinkai’s works at the top the current year is 2016-2018. The other studios learned a lot from him, in my opinion. His art styles are some of my favorites to this day, though.

As an independently-produced short film, its production values punch above its weight. Gigguk is really passionate about anime, and I love it each time the medium portrays non-East Asian cultural elements.
Not that long ago, I’ve made it a goal to someday produce even a short anime. This inspires me towards that point.

It’s a cut above most of the other episodes in the second cour: Morihito becomes a completely different person when it comes to denims (as seen in the banner). All’s well after he obtained a 1 million yen Levi’s thanks to Nico.
And to prove among the guys that Morihito can plan dates the best, he asked out Nico O_O. It’s hectic and planned to the last minute, but Nico is able to convince him in the end that going off script is fine.
There’s only one episode left and it’s only now that there is some suspense/tension/antagonist entering the show.

“Look again at that dot. That’s here. That’s home. That’s us. On it everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives. The aggregate of our joy and suffering, thousands of confident religions, ideologies, and economic doctrines, every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilization, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every mother and father, hopeful child, inventor and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every “superstar,” every “supreme leader,” every saint and sinner in the history of our species lived there-on a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam.
The Earth is a very small stage in a vast cosmic arena. Think of the endless cruelties visited by the inhabitants of one corner of this pixel on the scarcely distinguishable inhabitants of some other corner, how frequent their misunderstandings, how eager they are to kill one another, how fervent their hatreds. Think of the rivers of blood spilled by all those generals and emperors so that, in glory and triumph, they could become the momentary masters of a fraction of a dot.
Our posturings, our imagined self-importance, the delusion that we have some privileged position in the Universe, are challenged by this point of pale light. Our planet is a lonely speck in the great enveloping cosmic dark. In our obscurity, in all this vastness, there is no hint that help will come from elsewhere to save us from ourselves.
The Earth is the only world known so far to harbor life. There is nowhere else, at least in the near future, to which our species could migrate. Visit, yes. Settle, not yet. Like it or not, for the moment the Earth is where we make our stand.
It has been said that astronomy is a humbling and character-building experience. There is perhaps no better demonstration of the folly of human conceits than this distant image of our tiny world. To me, it underscores our responsibility to deal more kindly with one another, and to preserve and cherish the pale blue dot, the only home we’ve ever known.”

Uron Mirage-themed episode. Kukumi and Makuwa-sensei’s doujin dream comes to fruition. They barely made it through the printing deadline.
It was worth it. Kukumi is able to secure a spot in the event (in Tokyo Big Sight). Makuwa had to bail, but good thing Morihito and Nico could substitute. Nico could use her magic to fix a last-minute printing issue.
While doing that, she committed a slight mistake of changing Morihito’s hair to white. That turned into an unintentional cosplay of Oboro’s newly-revealed form, turning the (women) target audience crazy.

Cloverworks actually did it, again*. This madlad of a studio is releasing banger after banger this season across three shows. Unlikely to be replicated because of potential burnout issues, but still, mighty impressive.
*See below
After properly watching Episode One, and also watching My Dress Up Darling S2, I can tell MDUD is the studio’s passion project, sadly at the expense of this anime and perhaps Rascal Does Not Dream of Santa Claus, which I haven’t started yet. The telling sign is the inconsistency of animation quality: Rintaro’s CGI walking sequence at 0:40 of the OP, juxtaposed with the scenes depicted just eight seconds later, made me cry inside at the what-could-have-beens.
This team can draw excellent animation if enough resources are given. See Akebi’s Sailor Uniform. Here, they have to be selective on where to spend their time and money, For example, car animations are… ass, like they used Blender to move them from point A to point B and call it a day. On the other end of the spectrum, the sakuga moments like what the other users shared before are absolutely brilliant, like I can count the number of shows that have better shots than those with only one hand. Kaoruko’s reactions and faces are some of the most expressive I’ve seen yet.
Other stuff I noticed:
- Episode structure, eyecatch, and title card is reminiscent of Your Lie in April. I was half-expecting wacci’s Kirameki to play in the ED.
Eyecatches
Title cards
- Just like MDUD S2 is Bocchi-fied, the gags include artstyle changes to a lesser extent. I hope it’s not overdone here. KaoruHana’s story feels like it should be taken seriously.
- Kaoruko’s face looks like a grown-up version of Akebi Kao’s in some ways
As for the story itself, I need more time to digest it. I just finished The Dangers in My Heart and am feeling kinda empty right now.
By Cloverworks standards, the quality could be better. And yet at that state, it’s much, much better than other shows out there. That says a lot about what the studio’s capable of.
