It was THE show everybody talked about when it aired. It even leaked into non-anime discourse. Ichbiban no takaramono hit the heavy rotation on JP radio stations and sold like hotcakes. The show was everywhere at the time. It was story-complete, though, so that’s why there is no second season.

Ben-To is peak. The premise is too silly, though, to get normies into it. I tried. It’s like Keijo!!! in that regard and deserves more love.

Grimgar deserves to be forgotten. Ranta is unsufferable and Haruhiro is whiny and moping around for most of the anime adaptation. I’ve read the light novels further than what was adapted in the anime and by the point I dropped it I couldn’t stand a single character anymore. Even Yume-butt can’t save this. It was incredibly pretty, though. It’s a shame the background artists died.

I binged the light novels recently and I had a good time with the series. I am unsure though how well this translates to the anime format without the inner monologue that explain most of MC’s actions. Basically the humor lies not in what she does, but in why. Without her reasoning for doing something it would come across as just your basic overpowered-can-do-everything MC. On the other hand halting the action for long streaks just to her the MCs inner thoughts makes for really boring anime. I hope they find a way to make it work.

On one side of the adaptation spectrum, you have BUG FILMS working on Witch Hat Atelier, which actually tailors the girl’s clothes to get the animation putting them on right, and on the other side, you get WIT Studio on Bookworm, who can’t even be arsed to read the stuff they are adapting.

I just don’t get it. How can it be that one of the best-selling book series can’t get a good adaptation?!

I agree. Not a fan of the cyberspace mumbo jumbo, but I really like the movie for everything else.

If you like the manga then you will love the anime. It’s the best adaptation I’ve ever seen.

Bookworm is the keyword here. I hate the WIT adaptation with every fiber of my body.

They have a spell drawn over them together, they’re thrown in a heap, Qifrey lifts one, then???

Brimmed Hat mage put a portal spell on the paved stones to lure and trap the girls in the maze/pocket universe. -> After they stumble into the trap, the mage destroys the paved stones to close the portal and keep anyone else from finding them /helping them. -> the girls break the magic seal on the inside that keeps the spell active -> with the spell broken the door back to reality opens and Qifrey can enter and save the girls.

Pssst. Don’t speak its name, or it comes! It brings with it all the cut pages of the Bookworm novel that scatter unused around it until you drown and suffocate in them.

Did you see the clip of the teacher doing a full arm rotation circle on a chalkboard?!

Are you talking about the encounter in this episode? Coco wasn’t conscious during it.

I think I love this adaptation just as much as I hate the other one.

Also, when was the last time an anime did skip OP and ED to squeeze 3 more minutes out for the episode? From the shows that I watch it must have been Re:Zero.

Absolutely. The anime adaptation adds so many details. You can really see the passion the studio has for the series.

Yes, I think the entire fight scene with the beast in the last episode of Frieren was also just a single frame in the manga.

Again, I love how much they added “between the pages”. All those little details elevate this adaptation so much from the source which was already a visual masterpiece. For example this entire scene with remembering herself growing up learning and the memory of her mother guiding her is added inbetween just these few frames:

We also see why I am of the opinion that Agott is deeply and inherently evil and should not be allowed to exist as a witch.

Kiryu-chan as the devil is pure genius.

and the fascination with the magic system (B to A+, depending on how well it explains advanced magic).

It’s widely considered one of the best magic systems in all media on par or above with Sanderson’s Mistborn series.

After first ep.: Exceptional adaptation. They did the same thing that Frieren did, where they added so much “between the panels” to elevate the source.

edit after ep 2.: episode 2 was closer to the source since there was more material there that needed less anime original padding. They still managed to give the characters so much personality. I especially love how they managed to translate the manga’s insanely beautiful art panels into animation.

That ice flower scene at the end was beautiful. I’m really interested in the world building here. I found Hinagiku a bit too emotional manipulative for my taste (in how the character was tailored to be laser focussed on invoking the viewers protective instincts) but this episode was great.

Very funny. Made me laugh a couple times.

After the first episode I have no idea where this is going. So far though I didn’t see anything compelling.

Good first episode. You can definitely see Akatsuki’s brand of emotional manipulation at work, but just like in VE it works instead of pissing me off.

Looking forward to the rest of the show.

I have to admit that I have no idea why this is going around as news right now. I’ve seen a trailer for this over half a year ago. Maybe I’m missing something.

I was expecting someone from her past to show up or recognize her since the Instagram episode. I honestly was 100% sure that this was where they would be going with that whole plot line.

That powerpoint adaptation did the series dirty. I think I’m actually looking less forward to the next LN volume after this anime. I really don’t think this adaptation had any redeeming qualities, and I think the series (or IP) would have been better off without it.
