On the other hand, the biggest localization scandal (for lack of a better word) didn’t happen at the translation, it happened when failed YA authors were allowed to rewrite the work, which will still probably be a problem. So it might not do very much good either.
I think this is an important point. If this can take the translator’s ego out of the equation it would be a clear win. But then, they would probably insert it back again in the revision stage. My best case scenario would be that with the AI doing the heavy lifting there is enough human workforce going around so that those type of translators who rewrite the story find themself jobless.

Incredible last episode. The OST for the epic moment was the best I’ve heard this season and I give this episode a full 10/10. With the overall series getting a 9/10. I would have also loved to see a 14th episode with just comfy everything is alright vibes.

Holy wow… MC is hard to watch. OP is by Tokino Sora so I want it to become a hit, but I don’t know if I can warm up to that type of MC.

In the context of my work, translations done by LLMs are working great so far and have no problem grasping context. And that is with general models and not specialized ones for the task which I assume this will be. So I will give it a chance instead of outright jumping on the AI hate train.

There absolutely had to be a naked kid for no plot reason at all other than to pacify the pedos. Two scenes later it’s back to fox form as if nothing ever changed. I’m so sick of this shit in anime.

How many episodes in a row was that now with just people sitting around a table talking?

I interpreted that Mutsumi sees Jiro as something akin to a replacement for her missing Dad. But the wording of this episode about responding to her feelings gives me Usagi Drop PTSD. I really enjoy this series and don’t want to live in constant fear that this turns into something like that.

I was under the impression that the yokais were only living in that village but this episode we see them everywhere. I’m not too fond of the man in black and a demon lord though. It takes away from the mystical yokai setting and brings the series into chuuni fantasy.

I found the “it got viral” shout endearing when there were barely any comments. It really shows that the girls are starting from scratch.

Okay, hear me out. I have a theory:

Zooted Akira is just 7g transformed Gawr Gura.
I don’t know if I’m a genius or if I’m slowly going mad here.

The setting has so much potential to break out of the confines of “normal” storytelling, yet you could see the culprit coming from a mile away.
Also, does anyone understand why turning young doesn’t kill her anymore? Is it because the source is no different?

I disklike plots where everything could be resolved if one person would just say what they saw or heard. A simple “Yo, I just heard them talking about how they want to assimilate us into their weird mushroom tribe” would have solved everything.

I hate it when good but naive characters get preyed upon by cults and swindlers the same way someone might hate seeing a kitten getting beaten. It makes me angry and I stop enjoying whatever I’m watching or reading. Luckily it turned out okay in the end, but I can’t say I enjoyed this episode very much at all.

Yes, but in Goblin Slayer the human victims didn’t fall in love with the goblins and had severe psychological trauma. Here the human girls are reduced to sex wish fulfillment for the reader: “wohoo you goblins killed my friends and abducted me, please let me ride this tasty MC dick in a orgy”. I had more respect for the show in the first episode where the first group of girls rather took poison.

Can we have a discussion going already about whether or not this is unnecessary? So far I absolutely see no need for this over the old adaptation. It doesn’t exactly makes anything better. It’s Fuits Basket all over again.

No one disagrees. Our point was that someone enjoys a parody more when they have a frame of reference of what is parodied. I mean it’s the whole point of a parody. One can enjoy OPM but if the same person had seen 500 battle shounen up to the point where they’re fed up with the same tropes, OPM is just a million times funnier than when that is just first anime.
I don’t want to shit on your favorite show here, but it’s just common sense that a parody is better if you know what is parodied.

Also, Jiro is quickly becoming my favorite character (it doesn’t hurt that he looks so fluffy, lol)
For me it’s his calm voice and demeanour.

I would argue that there is a reason it has become such a huge success. It’s the vanilla flavor of isekai anime.
- Comment on best anime to start on 2 months ago:
They don’t “need” to know the stuff they are parodying, true, but it’s a lot less funny without that frame of reference. It’s like listening to a Wierd Al song without knowledge of the original.

but to me, a human viewer, it’s somewhat disturbing however much the writer/director makes light of it.
I can’t agree more. Dropped.

I believe the best starter animes must need some criteria:
- not too long (seeing something having hundreds of episodes is a huge hurdle)
- self-contained (no spin-offs of other franchises that you need to know)
- completed (no “if you want to know how it ends you have to read the source material or hope for a second season”)
- no need to know cultural references (what the fuck is a shikigami?!)
- universal themes (love, hate, friendship, hardship, etc… Stuff that applies to everyone)
- characters should be likable (no one keeps watching if they dislike the characters)
- interesting from the start (no “uh, it gets great from the 5th episode, just keep at it”)
- interesting throughout (show shouldn’t fizzle out or run out of steam)
- normal visuals (yes, shows with unique art styles can feel fresh for someone with more than 1000 shows under their belt, but for a new watcher better keep it normal)
- not mundane but not too far “out there” (just the right amount of fantastical)
- it should end on a positive note (I wouldn’t have touched another anime ever again if Grave of the Fireflies were my first one)
With all those criteria listed, I believe the best show that ticks all the checkmarks is Anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day.

I liked the Hinata in the source but Anime Hinata is unlikeable for some reason. Also, more Slime kingdom building and less political intrigue of everyone else pretty please.

But whom am I kidding when I know where this is going… sigh
- Comment on The Fable - Episode 2 discussion 2 months ago:
I watched both episodes yesterday and was pleasantly surprised. Going by the title card I was expecting something low effort like House Husband, but this at least looked a lot better. I’m not too sure about the story/humor which hasn’t landed yet for me, but they did something I liked a lot with the subtle masturbation joke in episode 2. Not so much the joke itself, but how it was delivered.

Mia Luna Tearmoon IS NOT A VILLAINESS. She is a bona fide genius and saint!
I recommend a great fantasy show named Snow White with the Red Hair and Maoyu. Both are great. Especially Shirayuki.
And if you’re interested in light novels there are a couple that follow the same premise as Archdemon’s Dilemma.
- Comment on Jii-san Baa-san Wakagaeru • Grandpa and Grandma Turn Young Again - Episode 2 discussion 2 months ago:
The heartwarming scene with the son was nice, but I still feel the show would fir a short from anime better. 24 minutes just feel like dragging on. I hope they establish something else plot wise going forward than the already overstaying running gag.
Before the season started I had hoped from the synopsis that this should would maybe explore common problems of youth from the perspective of a couple with an entire lifetime of experience. Something young watchers could maybe take some positive life lessons away from, but right now all they would get is “ha ha, this young-looking couple acts so silly ha ha”.

It’s another great episode. We get a new addition to the cast and a hint about Kano attacking a member of her past idol group. I hope the series keeps drip-feeding us this mystery instead of just info-dumping it all at once.
