Yeah, leave it to the shoujo/josei audience to do the mental gymnastics to go from this premise to “uwu, so romantic”.

I disliked the light novel, but it works a lot better as an anime. The slapstick animation, sound effects and pixel art jump cuts change the entire tone and make the dumb stuff more palatable.

Not an isekai, though, or is that something coming up later?

Update: Everything arrived. I had to use Bebop for the maiden run - Jazz and vinyl go hand in hand in my mind.

I’m not happy. The intro scene (under the red moon) made it look like it was Nia who died and got reincarnated as Nia again. Then the pacing is similar to how Bookworm got rushed and is skipping over all the build up. I wish anime directors would learn that hype scenes have to be earned. Just skipping forward to them don’t work. This first episode is basically two thirds of the first volume.

Lastly I have some minor gripe about the naming and wish they would use the naming conventions from the official source translation in the subs. Lynokis = Rinokis.

However, I completely understand their need to move the story along and not end on a huge cliffhanger.

Ending on her entering the jureve would have been the perfect stopping point. they could have let 2 real world years pass by before continuing in the story with her waking up 2 in-universe years later.

This follows Suikoden 2 and the main selling point is how the story puts pressure on the protagonists. I’m curious to see how well they will pull this off in the anime, but so far I’m not convinced that they will do a good job of this. the main feature of the game are the side characters, and I fear they will just throw in as many cameo appearances as they can, whether it makes sense or not (like the mini carnival troupe). I will also say that the villain Luca wroked in the game (for that area) but in the anime he just looks like a caricature. After the pilot I would say you’re better off playing the game (there’s a remaster) than watching the show, but I hope the next episodes will be better.

That was great. Makes me kinda want to install a old space sim again.

Love the characters apart from the moody one.

Reverse harem would be my best guess. But at least it has a high production value and the FMC seems likable.

Also, I don’t think I understand why the evil noble has to sneak out to give Myne a poison and give the kidnapper instructions himself. Is it a needless event to implicate the evil noble and Georgine or perhaps there’s a good explanation?

I did not reread that passage, but I believe to remember that there had to be a noble to knock out an arch noble. Even though she was a kid, Charlotte could have just crushed the fall guy. And if I remember the poison wasn’t poison but a drug that would keep someone’s magic in locked, it just so happens to be poison for the unique health condition that Myne was in. Grausam (name means “cruel” in German, btw.) really did try to kidnap and not kill.

I think I’ve never hated a anime season more than this one. There were absolutely worse, but you just drop and forget them. But this did destroy something that I loved. It was so bad that it taints the source in my memory. Similar to how the Star Wars prequels taints the original trilogy. I would like to have the people responsible removed from the industry.

I’m mostly afraid of the vinyl getting damaged during long international shipping and then returns being a hassle or straight out not available.

I’m not a fan of the Evangelion OST, other than the OP I don’t think I like any track from the original OST. But I will look up if they have a Halo CE ost vinyl. The OG Halo score was transformative.

I can’t shake the feeling that they just want to get the “FX trading can be really bad, m’kay?” out of the way, so they can say that they warned about the dangers, just before going into full-on FX-trading promotion mode.

My prediction would be that they’re all really rich and happy in the end, and that this is not like Chainsmoker Cat where it’s an anti-smoking ad beginning to end. I hope I’m wrong here, but I just get promotion material vibes from this one.

If someone is wondering what the difference between this and Heroine? Saint? No, I’m an All-Works Maid (And Proud of It)! is: This one is more like a collection of short and heartwarming story vignettes with some occasional overarching plot development connecting them. Think of how Violet Evergarden was structured.

I consider Anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day the perfect beginner anime for a couple of reasons:

• short - with only 11 episodes it’s not a huge time investment (compared to multi-cour shows or mammoths with hundreds or thousands of episodes)
• universal - the concepts of the show are universal to every gender and culture. You don’t need to know or learn any Japan-specific terminology to immediately understand the plot (ie. chuunibyou, shinigami, yokai, etc.).
• everyday people - the show has normal people who are thrown into an uncommon situation, which makes it easy to empathize with the characters.
• likeable characters - self-explanatory.
• believable - the show is juuust outside the norm. Enough to be interesting but not so far-fetched that every little thing is a new concept watchers have to wrap their heads around.
• instant hook - the show’s hook is near-instant. No “it gets good after 10 episodes” or “once the X arc starts in episode 180 it’s really great”.

I reread that part. This is just yet another example of the adaptation not giving a shit. In the light novel, Lessy is on his side, and Myne stands up, with her upper body half outside the window since Lessy is only half as wide as she is tall. That’s when she gets grabbed by the light rope and is pulled out of the window. The size of Lessy is the same in the anime, so there was absolutely nothing holding the adaptation back from doing the same here. But instead, they opted to have her climb out of the safety of Lessy like some idiot. At least they are consistent, since they prove in every single episode that they neither read the source material nor understood it.
