Is that what kicked off the beans era? That was some good times.
Comment on Why?
pelespirit@sh.itjust.works 1 month agoApparently, it’s a little over 7k and it’s about beans. I heard that lemmy will upvote anything. This is literally just a can of fucking beans

Don’t forget the Jeans era
panda_abyss@lemmy.ca 1 month ago
I designed and bought a jeans wrap for my PlayStation controllers because I thought it would be a funny meme, and they took forever to arrive, looked absolutely awful, and didn’t stay on.
Don’t remind me of the jeans era.

I wonder if it has anything to do with what instances your instance is federated with
null@piefed.nullspace.lol 1 month ago
That is exactly what it has to do with
pelespirit@sh.itjust.works 1 month ago
Do instances count votes differently or separately? I don’t even know.
NotSteve_@piefed.ca 1 month ago
Yeah, it’s sort of an odd part of the threadiverse. Every instance calculates based on what they’re notified of which means the age of the server along with what other instances it’s federated with impacts the count
snooggums@piefed.world 1 month ago
The federation of votes makes sense for potentially mitigating bad actor instances with false votes. Like if a new instance spun up and falsified their votes it could be negated easily by defederating.
Having differing votes is like having differing communities based on subscriptions. Just a necessary side effect of picking and choosing what gets shared when federated.

Good question. How many upvotes does it have on your end?

It’s now over 9K. Nice job.

that post happened during the time Lemmy had the most active users, so there is that
owenfromcanada@lemmy.ca 1 month ago
Also during the time Lemmy was most excited about beans. One of the golden ages, to be sure.

There was also the can’t poop guy
ArrrborDAY@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 month ago
Let us not forget the I can’t poop for three days guy. That was just after the reddit api fiasco and helped cement Lemmy’s capacity for collective comedy.
tidderuuf@lemmy.world 1 month ago
Its depressing that I’m living through another golden age… Last time it was reddit, before that it was msn messenger. I can’t even remember what was before that. Probably chisels and slabs of rock.

Before lemmy became a has-been.

What the fuck are you talking about, Jesse?
NotSteve_@piefed.ca 1 month ago
During the initial reddit migration, Lemmy/Kbin had a larger active userbase than it does now. It fell off a bit after a little while, though its slowly creeping back up there with a more committed community.
But basically there were more users to upvote beans at that point

Man, I wish the dev of Kbin had let people help him. It was, by far, my favorite instance and style of threadiverse.
No, I don’t really find Mbin the same, sadly.
Just lamenting what was haha
