- Comment on The word "antihero" has really lost its meaning 5 days ago:
An antihero was not and is not a “bad guy who does good things”. It’s a person who lacks the usual hero characteristics taking up the role of a hero.
Shrek is the perfect example of an antihero.
An ugly big green ogre who is rough and uncouth, sent on a quest that isn’t his own, yet still fulfills the role of hero.
- Comment on Is Star Trek Discovery that bad? 1 week ago:
The central character of the show is the least interesting person on it somehow despite having what could have been a good back story.
Everyone else seems to be some sort of real person to me. She is just so boring and flat and everything revolves around her for no real reason. Her purpose seems to be to be the fence post that stands there and eventually cries.
The best thing about the show was it gave us Anson Mount as Pike and he is outstanding. He was so good as Pike we got SNW as a spinoff.
- Comment on Million-year-old skull ‘rewrites human evolution’: Yunxian 2, found in China in 1990, indicates Homo sapiens may have emerged 400,000 years earlier 1 week ago:
“The scientists relied in part on another similar skull to shape their model, and then compared it to more than 100 other specimens.”
Why use this specific similar skull? How similar was it really? We seem to be talking about fine structures in specific areas of the skull. How do they know they picked the right one to base their reconstruction off of?

It's honestly getting to the point where I almost wish someone with know how would train an AI to block AI slop from my internet
- Comment on Put down your phone and engage in boredom – how philosophy can help with digital overload 3 weeks ago:
"Where there is no boredom there can be no reflection". Going to disagree with this. I burn my hand on a hot stove, I reflect upon that and I'm sure not bored.
I find that a lot of the reflection in my life comes from similar things. Engagement with a good book, coming across a problem I've never seen before, interacting with new people in new social situations. Things I engage with that also throw me back to myself... All things that make me reflect that aren't boredom.
I'm not disagreeing there is value in boredom. I feel like a lot of my creativity comes from having been bored while young (as well as it being actively encouraged by teachers). Just disagreeing that boredom is the only reason anyone reflects deeply.

He means the death camps.

- Comment on Is DOGE actually about collecting information to train AI for Musk products than saving money? 5 months ago:
There's a few reasons to get that data.
To weaponize it against us himself, or sell it to our enemies.
To create a "master list" that the authoritarians can use to disburse and destroy those they disagree with or find impure.
This isn't just about some shitty AI. It's about destroying and controlling us.
He's currying favor with world leaders because he saw how easy it has been for such vast wealth to undermine and topple American democracy and he wants to do this everywhere.
