Welcome. If your all page seems stale, I suggest you switch to different sort types. Active is the least active, but worth checking. Hot is great. If I still want content, I’ll go to 1 hour, 6 hour and scaled.
Comment on Watch me go Reddit
IonTempted@lemmynsfw.com 3 weeks ago
Newbie here who is in Reddit jail, I got banned for posting something that wasn’t into Reddit’s filters (It was an NSFW meme) Reddit has stupid filters, I’m glad there’s neither here. I’ll wait 100 days until my IP gets unblocked I guess and then move there.
I had an account with almost 100k karma and I posted good stuff, Thanks reddit for having bullshit filters.

Worth noting there are descriptions here: join-lemmy.org/docs/…/03-votes-and-ranking.html
But basically Hot is most upvotes with a decay based on how old the post is (down to 0 after I think 2 days)
Active is the same thing but with the decay based on when the last comment was posted rather than the post itself (use to find conversations).
Top is just the highest score (upvoted minus downvotes) only counting the votes in the period you select (hour, 6 joura, day, etc).

I was on Reddit for 12 years, with nearly a million Karma, but they permabanned me in the February bloodbath for posting an opinion I’d posted many times without a warning of any kind.
I’ve never heard of a 100 days ban, that’s new. I suspect they’re hoping you’ll forget about Reddit and go away, but if you go back, my prediction is that now that you are on their radar, they’ll target you, and find excuses to keep suspending you until they feel justified in permabanning you.

Reddit mostly ban IPs for 100 days 105 for safety and I’ve been there before really, Now I’ve got a new connection so different IP and I’m not shy about formatting my devices, It’s something I will do, though for now I also don’t care.
FinjaminPoach@lemmy.world 3 weeks ago
Have you been told there’s a 100 day cool down? I was told my account was banned (with zero info/explanation) forever and even when I use VPNs I get Shadow banned until I open up Reddit without a VPN so I assume it’s really forever
IonTempted@lemmynsfw.com 2 weeks ago
The rules say that Reddit keeps track of your IP and fingerprints for 100 days.
FinjaminPoach@lemmy.world 2 weeks ago
Well thank you for the explanation! From a bit of googling it seems that other redditors also experienced being “suddenly unbanned,” which chalks up with what you said.
Does that mean i should completely avoid viewing reddit and then 100 days on from my last viewing they’ll forget my IP and i can join again? (Assuming of course that it’s a new email address)
Or do they ‘hold’ the IP from when you did the first infraction rather than whem you did the latest visit?
IonTempted@lemmynsfw.com 2 weeks ago
I odn’t think you can get “unbanned” without trying an appeal, though if you do try an appeal it will get rejected as it gets checked by bots somehow.
I had two instances of this, I don’t remember what I did last time. I did download Brave which doesn’t track fingerprints but now funnily enough I was banned on a Brave browser so I guess I would clear cookies, but I remember singing up after 100 days and took it real slow like posting every few weeks and I was in the clear, until I got sniped by a bot.
Wait 100 days, clear your cookies, IP, Browser, Email, even format your PC if you have to.

Is the 100 days cooldown a thing? I just recently deleted my shadow banned 10 years account because I’m pretty sure it’s done and dusted once you get the shadow ban. Especially as you don’t even know what you are banned for.
IonTempted@lemmynsfw.com 2 weeks ago
Your account is done and dusted, you can make a new one though.
Aarrodri@lemmy.ca 3 weeks ago
What was the meme? Post it here…
IonTempted@lemmynsfw.com 3 weeks ago
It had nudity so I’ll avoid posting it here because I still like to follow the rules.
The point being it was a perfectly legal meme which got sniped by a bot and I didn’t even bother appealing the ban because I know it would probably get blocked, and now I don’t want to sign in to my account with my new IP because it would probably reset the days.
I know some people like to be sctrictly anti-moderation and anti-rules because they like to post offensive or innapropriate stuff, I think there SHOULD be moderation, It’s just Reddit’s moderation is so forced
idegenszavak@sh.itjust.works 3 weeks ago
We have communities for that if it’s too nude: !nsfwmemes@lemmynsfw.com But general meme communities also allow nsfw posts.
You don’t have to self censor yourself, post whatever you want, just find the fitting comunity
IonTempted@lemmynsfw.com 3 weeks ago
I see, I mean I’m finding this community to be more chill like I don’t have to hide myself with reddit I felt like I had to hide my profile because I was into NSFW stuff.
That was at least one good thing with reddit you could hide your profile history because of stalkers or too judgy people.
Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 2 weeks ago
reddit goes hard after nudity, of, because they consider those accounts as spammy or botting.
gedaliyah@lemmy.world 3 weeks ago
If you have a way to contact your friends, let them know where to meet you.😉
Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 2 weeks ago
the reddit filters currently go very hard against nsfw/ right now, its only a matter of time before it shadowbans people
DFX4509B@lemmy.wtf 3 weeks ago
Why not just move here permanently and kill your Reddit since they clearly demonstrated they don’t want you there?
IonTempted@lemmynsfw.com 3 weeks ago
Because reddit had more niche communities that I was into and it’s way more populated which is to be expected, but I also love how open this website seems so far, my main gripe with Reddit is that if you are a new account you are pretty much fucked, I’m not against moderation but Reddit overdoes it.
jubilationtcornpone@sh.itjust.works 3 weeks ago
There are some subreddits that I miss but there’s also usually a lot less bullshit here. The giant “fuck you” to third party app developers was the last straw for me. I wasn’t even in that group but that pretty much told me where reddit was heading and I wasn’t willing to go along with it. But, there’s probably quite a few people here who still use Reddit. Either way, welcome!
cannedtuna@lemmy.world 3 weeks ago
Why not start your own niche community and then share it here?
IonTempted@lemmynsfw.com 3 weeks ago
I’m not against it, It’s just I used reddit for everything regarding news and I overral liked engaging with posts but it’s always like I had this fear that if I say something wrong I would get banned by a moderator or something.
idegenszavak@sh.itjust.works 3 weeks ago
Sounds like stockholm syndrome to me
cRazi_man@europe.pub 3 weeks ago
There isn’t enough of a population to get a good small niche community going. Also it can be difficult to find the community in the first place. The fight stick community on Reddit is very active. On Lemmy it has been around for a while and remains completely dead.
panda_abyss@lemmy.ca 3 weeks ago
I feel like we’re slowly growing here, lots of very rich communities have been built now.
But yes, my city and hobby communities are still a ghost town. We don’t have critical mass on lots of stuff yet.
foodandart@lemmy.zip 2 weeks ago
Give it time. If there is as much a problem at Reddit as it seems, its only a matter of time before more and more folks make their way here.
One of my co-workers that plays No Man’s Sky was looking for help on the NMS sub and was shocked to find as many deleted posts as he did.
Something is DEFINITELY up there…
Lost_My_Mind@lemmy.world 3 weeks ago
Why not make those niche communities here?
