Does being called a faggot and communist online really stimulate the dopamine release? I'd be a little worried if that's the case.
dohpaz42@lemmy.world 2 days ago
Looking at it strictly from your perspective, it doesn’t make sense does it? But, keep in mind that there are a lot of people who share the same view (regardless of how correct or wrong they may be to you). And when those people gather together and start validating each other, yes your brain releases more dopamine. And when someone is addicted to a substance (even dopamine), we will try to seek out those same triggers so we can continue to get that hit.
The problem with addiction is that our biology holds a tolerance to it, so we need more of said substance to get the same high as before. So we need to escalate the things we do. And when we don’t get those hits, our physiology causes us to experience pain. And what do you do when you’re in pain? Hopefully you stop doing whatever it is that causes you pain. It’s a vicious cycle; a feedback loop if you will.
Now I have a question for you: did you actually type out
Censoredor did you say a “bad” word?Image
faythofdragons@slrpnk.net 2 days ago
It’s the .world censoring. I can see the slur from my instance.
HubertManne@piefed.social 2 days ago
oh man. im so glad to be on my instance. Heck I turned off bluring not safe for work because peoples sensibilities on what is nsfw is by and larger way below mine. Or above. Not sure which way makes sense but anyway im less sensitive and prefer to not have stuff changed on my view.
ramble81@lemmy.zip 2 days ago
Oh wow. That looks like your instance or your app that did that. I’m on Lemmy.zip using Voyager

That’s disappointing. While I don’t personally condone the use of that word, we’re all adults here and should be able to just downvote or rebut or whatever without censorship. 🤷♂️

Not sure what you tried to say, but it was bad enough for automod to replace a single word with “removed” in your comment and it reported the comment as using a slur.
Context wise it was fine, and I get what you’re saying, and that you weren’t calling anyone that.
But just a heads up you got a little too authentic with what life’s like on twitter, and might want to avoid doing that.

Amazing quote. Thanks, mate

I'm trying to say that if you're a target of the fascists on Xitter, why would you willingly expose yourself to their abuse? It doesn't seem like a fun nor productive activity unless you have a bot on there that's trying to sway their opinion.
givesomefucks@lemmy.world 2 days ago
Yeah, same page.
I just meant the slur was removed on lemmy.world the instant you posted the comment, so I didn’t know what that word was.
It was clear you weren’t calling anyone that, which is why your comment is still there.
Just a heads up it’s better to leave it vague and just say “slurs” instead of putting an actual slur
Mouselemming@sh.itjust.works 2 days ago
I can see the word. And it’s an appropriate reference to inappropriate speech by others, imho. But to avoid having the censorship interfere with making your point, you might want to type something like fxxxxt that gives a clue to the slur you’re referring to.
atro_city@fedia.io 2 days ago
I dislike that because then we get to the point of typing sht and sx or m**st to self-censor.

We’re allowed to say faggot here
givesomefucks@lemmy.world 2 days ago
You’re not…
Automod from this instant instantly removes it and generate a report.
The other person who used it, used it in one of the very rare handful of scenarios it might be acceptable to use a slur.
You seem to be under the impression that it’s acceptable under any circumstances, and almost gleeful about it…
