It’s kicking upwards. US-American culture dominates globally, the US is the most powerful nation on the globe. It is okay, might even be necessary, to poke fun at it.

How is this not racist/xenophobic? (yeah, I know “American” isn’t a race). You make this kind of comic for any other country, and a rational person would be like “yeah, that’s…pretty racist.”

It’s okay to make fun of a culture.
At least I’m fine with that. Culture is the composition of choices.

There is no way people would be as tolerant if this were about like, Argentina, despite the country haven fallen victim to similar politicians. Or even Italy, another rich but declining nation with dominant Conservatism.

I mean, other than some folks jumping in to defend the honor of the
Fatherlandhelpless foreign country which needs terminally online Americans to defend it, I don't really know that there'd be a big difference in reaction. There's not much here that's... actually offensive unless you really try to read into it? "Ha ha, debt goes up, major restaurants, car type that's fucking everywhere despite no reason for it, overused national symbol, food additive, regional hat, flag bikini, national obsession"
I guess the diabetes bit?
I don't really know that an Argentine drawing the same tongue-in-cheek style pic with inflation, whatever national chains are prominent, vehicle jokes, regional dress, a national-team shirt, and a soccer ball would really get a majorly different reaction.

Am American, everything here is spot-on 100% true. I could find real life photos of everything here.
Yeah, even her.

not really.
IcedRaktajino@startrek.website 1 month ago
Norf F.C or “Goalposting” is the nickname given to a series of drawings and illustrations originating from 4chan’s /pol/ board satirizing Northern English
Yes, 4chan’s /pol/ board is certainly a mighty fine moral compass you’re referencing there. /s

The meme became very widely used outside of /pol/ and rarely criticized on 'racist' grounds.

The artist is American, for one.
IcedRaktajino@startrek.website 1 month ago
I really don’t that that gives it a pass, TBH.

God, I better not ever make jokes about the absurdity of living here, lest I be seen as problematic against my own country.

Everything in the comic is accurate.

Maybe it's my inner straight male talking, but I don't see nearly enough girls in American flag bikinis and cowboy hats in this country.
I once went to Texas and got complimented on my sombrero, though.
IcedRaktajino@startrek.website 1 month ago
Not saying any of it isn’t accurate for a portion of the population. But it doesn’t apply to everyone (we’re not a monoculture / planet of hats), and to paint 347,628,682 people with an ugly stereotype is, well, kinda racist / xenophobic.

Shut up nerd, go worry about a real problem.
