- Comment on Why Are Conservatives More Susceptible to Believing Lies? 4 days ago:
My parents are those college educated conservatives and their mental gymnastics are Olympic level. They also donate to charities and do volunteer work like meals on wheels. They don’t make any sense to me.

- Comment on A 25-Year-Old Is Writing Backdoors Into The Treasury’s $6 Trillion Payment System. What Could Possibly Go Wrong? 3 weeks ago:
I worked as a developer in electronic payments for 5 years and we had to go through a months long process to certify the code with the financial system. My bosses were paranoid of any changes I made (to a silly degree) and we had a silly amount of automated tests.
We were a small startup with an underpaid staff and I’m not sure if more than 1000 people used our software. What they’re doing is completely reckless.

It also doesn’t help that spellings started to standardize at the same time the great vowel shift was happening

- Comment on Selfhosted alternative to google keep/onenote/evernote/goodnotes? 3 months ago:
I’m just using a self hosted git repo with markdown files. I was having trouble finding something open source that I could edit with vim that also had a good mobile solution. I also didn’t want to get locked into a file format that was specific to an app.
Markdown is ubiquitous and I use git all the time as a developer so it was easier to tack something onto an existing workflow. It’s a little janky but at least I won’t be screwed by devs abandoning whatever app I was using.

I found it to surprisingly easy to read. I knew about the characters beforehand but never saw them used extensively in words I understand. Let’s bring ðem back
- Comment on Has anyone else ever seen an SSH key/fingerprint thing string together an actual word? Or how about a curse word? XD 5 months ago:
I think I got “cunT” once and gave myself a heart attack because I thought I had accidentally committed a frustrated debugging log message to a work repo. I found it while searching for swears but it was in a file I hadn’t changed

I usually sleep on my back but if I sleep on my side I always use a pillow. I have a pretty big head so if I’m lying flat with no pillow my neck is straight and not bending backwards
- Comment on And they don't fold well either 7 months ago:
Reading the comments is making me feel like a psychopath. I guess I’m the only one who occasionally uses no pillows because one can be too much for me

I think there’s a theory that the vinegar was posca, a mix of vinegar and water that was better than straight vinegar. Not that that was really a kindness since he’d survive longer and suffer more

I yeet I yote I have yeen
- Comment on Outliers 1 year ago:
It comes from Latin iactare meaning “to cast”. Over time the c was dropped as French evolved and the i shifted to a y consonant and we get yeter. Once it was borrowed into English it further changed as it simplified the ending and following the great vowel shift.
I am lying but most of those bits are facts and I’m actually describing the etymology of jet. Also the proto Indo European ye is hilariously uncanny.
