- Comment on Bluesky hits 20 million users 1 day ago:
About 15 years ago, I moved to a city where I didn’t know anyone. I joined Twitter because I like to try new apps as early as possible. It turned out to be a great place to talk about live music in my city, amongst other things. I met all my friends on Twitter.
At that time in my city, it was very much the town square that Elon wants it to be now. It was a place to discuss events in realtime; especially sporting events.
I suspect the advantage for Twitter was that you could communicate with people you didn’t know directly like celebrities, authors, politicians, etc. Not just write to them, but they write back because sending off a short message is much easier than making a call or writing a letter. Sometimes that is an unhealthy parasocial relationship but, it doesn’t have to be.
Kevin Smith basically started writing the movie Tusk in a collaborative way with Twitter.
- Comment on Weekends were a mistake, says Infosys co-founder Narayama Murthy 1 day ago:
That sucks. I work for a company that does that too but I don’t get reprimanded for doing it this way. I hope you are able to figure out a what works best for you and that they’ll let you take it.
- Comment on Weekends were a mistake, says Infosys co-founder Narayama Murthy 2 days ago:
Instead of taking traditional vacation throughout the year, I started taking as many Wednesdays as I can for this exact reason. I picked Wednesday specifically because no one else is off to need my attention and I can actually focus on my own chores or my mental health.
Two days is not enough for me to get caught up.
- Comment on If a leftist ran for president, would liberals support him? 2 days ago:
Yup. And not just those voters. It’s an issue in most groups.
There are even plenty of women that won’t vote for a woman.

Would liberals support him? Sure.
Would liberals support her? No.
- Comment on Elon's Death Machine (aka Tesla) Mows Down Deer at Full Speed , Keeps Going on "Autopilot" 3 weeks ago:
Deer aren’t edge cases. If you are in a rural community or the suburbs, deer are a daily way of life.
As more and more of their forests are destroyed, deer are a daily part of city life. I live in the middle of a large midwestern city; in neighborhood with houses crowded together. I see deer in my lawn regularly.
- Comment on Cable companies ask 5th Circuit to block FTC’s click-to-cancel rule | Cable companies worry rule will make it hard to talk customers out of canceling 3 weeks ago:
I’m so sick of the 5th Circuit. We need legislation to end judge shopping. Every damn article about some terrible decision seems to come out of the Fifth Circuit.
- Comment on 2 in 3 People Often Encounter Hate Speech Online. 4 weeks ago:
This amount actually seems low.
If the survey is reflective of real world percentages. Women are close to half of all people. White men are 31% of the US population. Assuming some of them aren’t straight men or have disabilities, thats a pretty large possibilities of options that someone can fling hate at.
To be clear, straight white men can also experience hate. I don’t want to discredit them. It just seems to me that most of the hate is directed at other identity groups, so I’m using it to make a point.
- Comment on Corporate greed is killing RuneScape. What do people play instead? 1 month ago:
I’ve been playing this! It’s a bit hard to progress sometimes because I don’t have the time to walk as much as I want, but it’s really nice when I do.
- Comment on All Of Apple’s Foldable iPhone Prototypes Have Visible Creases, Which May Explain The Company’s Apprehension Towards A Launch 1 month ago:
I want a flip design. Or women’s clothing with pockets large enough to fit my current phone. Whichever is easier. Seems to be the folding phone at this point.

- Comment on I make games and this literally happened to me this morning 1 month ago:
This is what I assumed, but if it helps in any other way, I’m happy to wishlist more games from small time developers.
I use likes and subs liberally on apps like YouTube or TikTok, even if I wouldn’t normally want to subscribe. It costs me nothing to do and gives someone else joy. Why wouldn’t I?
Eh, it messes up my algorithm but I don’t care. These Corporations know too much about me anyway, might as well give them a curveball.
- Comment on I make games and this literally happened to me this morning 1 month ago:
Does Wishlisting a game help the developer in anyway other than indicating excitement for a game?
I’d love to know if there an any incentive to interacting with a game’s store page other than buying a game, obviously.
If Steam gives a bonus for that kind of thing, I’m going to be a lot more generous with my clicks.
- Comment on Apple Shares Full iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro Repair Manuals 1 month ago:
I see a lot of commenters really hate Apple, but to clarify, the manual isn’t what’s important here.
According the article, the manuals indicate that the iPhone 16 is actually easier to repair. This is good news for consumers, independent repair shops, and the environment.
You can use a 9-volt battery to remove adhesive and they’ve added more support for Face-ID when replacing the LIDAR sensor.
We still have a long way to go for our right to repair but, the pressure that we put on companies and governments to make change is working. We should celebrate that.

No advice but for what it’s worth, I’m doing the same thing at work now. Just wanted you to know I relate. Sorry your job sucks. I hope you find another soon
- Comment on In Leaked Audio, Amazon Cloud CEO Says AI Will Soon Make Human Programmers a Thing of the Past 2 months ago:
The thing that I see most is that AI is dumb and can’t do it yet so we don’t need to worry about this.
To me, it’s not about whether it can or not. If the people in charge think it can, they’ll stop hiring. There is a lot of waste in some big companies so they might not realize it’s not working right away.
Source: I work for a big company that doesn’t do things efficiently.
- Comment on How does a car cigarette lighter work? 3 months ago:
This company is does a cool thing. I saw them on Adam Savage’s YouTube last year. Any product they scan, is uploaded to their site. Any person can launch the web app and look at the scans of the things they’ve scanned. You can view the full images in all dimensions.

- Comment on It’s a dark time to be a tech worker right now 8 months ago:
Same. I have a low paying white collar job that I don’t enjoy. I thought I would start learning development just in time or AI and then layoffs. It makes me feel really sick and scared for the future.
A lot of posts and videos have been put up about how it will be fine. That AI won’t take jobs and even with the layoffs, they say head counts are still up, but it feels pretty hopeless to me.
I don’t know what else to do, so I’m just going to keep trying and keep pushing myself to be a better dev. Maybe I’ll get there someday.

I just used my regular credit card. But I know you can get a prepaid card for international purposes like this. I don’t remember what that’s called. I think it’s green, lol.
There’s a lot whole subreddit about getting YouTube premium for affordable prices with good info.
- Comment on YouTube Premium announces 100 million subscribers 9 months ago:
That is exactly what I did. If you Google it, you can find a list of the cheapest countries. Some of the cheaper options didn’t work for some reason related to how payments are processed in those places but I found one that went worked on the 3rd or 4th try.
If I remember right, I was able to use Ukraine. I think Argentina is the cheapest around $1 a month.

While I’d prefer the do that also, I think the issue is that Google pays them so much, they couldn’t afford to exist without it.
- Comment on Stop using Fandom 1 year ago:
TLDR; Fandom has a lot of QAnon articles written to make the scams seem legitimate to less computer savvy people.
My mom has fallen in a Qanon conspiracy world. The people from that world write Fandom articles about themselves to make it seem legitimate. I found them when I started investigating these people trying to convince her to steer clear.
I don’t trust a single thing on Fandom anymore.
