When you say you’re having an awful time; which part are you struggling with?

Kinda want to say Nitronic Rush, but there weren’t any other cars in that.

Oh man, I hate that ““review”” format

I have had many thoughts along the lines of “how can I fully optimise my cellar” and “dino eggs are worth more money than dino mayo” and it just sucks all the wonder out of the game

You mean Mars Effect?
- Comment on What's a cancelled game you really miss? 1 week ago:
Blacklight Retribution was pretty great. I aged quite early in its lifespan, during an event which gave me a special nameplate - nothing more than a participation trophy, and at the time, loads of.people used it.
Signed in a few years later to.play a few rounds, and some guy begged me to let them use my account because of that now-rare nameplate.
(I also had an extremely cool helmet and some seriously powerful guns I got for free in that game’s equivalent of a lootbox)
- Comment on HELP! Im looking for a game like CIV 6 where the point is to go to war 1 week ago:
Civ 4 at least has an “Aggressive AI” setting, where all rival nations will be a bit more… well, aggressive and warmonger-y.
- Comment on What is the best Sea based game out there in your opinion? 1 week ago:
I like Anno 2070, a game which takes place in a world where the sea levels have risen to a barely-sustainable level. But it’s okay, because you can repopulate with the power of solarpunk machinery!
- Comment on Suggestions for mouse only games? 1 week ago:
X-COM 2 is fully playable with just the mouse. If you’re looking for something a bit lighter, there’s The Enchanted Cave 2, a nice little roguelite with an interesting loot system.
- Comment on Most under-utilized consoles? 2 weeks ago:
It was pretty big, and I believe it was Nintendo’s main competitor for a while. Just didn’t quite break out to the rest of the world, and it never got a proper followup
- Comment on Ubisoft says you "cannot complain" it shut down The Crew because you never actually owned it, and you weren't "deceived" by the lack of an offline version 2 weeks ago:
They’re actually really nice, well-made X-COM lites. Great if you don’t want to immediately throw your kids to the Chryssalids.
Rabbids still kinda suck as a concept, but the games are good enough that I can look past it
- Comment on Most under-utilized consoles? 2 weeks ago:
My votes go for the Amiga and the PC Engine.
The Amiga was tricky to develop for, particularly if you wanted to use all its custom chips to their full potential. So many Amiga games are just questionable ports of Atari ST or even 8-bit home micro games.
The PC Engine was really ahead of its time, but it’s now kind of an obscure little thing, and a bit quaint when put up against the SNES and Mega Drive.

The 8bitdo Ultimate 2C is very cheap as controllers go, and is also one of my favourites. Certainly my go-to for general purpose

- Comment on What are some old games that are hard to revisit, because a more modern and superior version exists? 4 weeks ago:
I would love to experience X-COM UFO Defense, but the only X-COMs I’ve played to any extent are the two “modern” Firaxis games. Going back to the originals is a real effort, especially without having the manual to hand.

It’s definitely a thing, but not for all domain types. Not sure why.

- Comment on What is the best looking retro console or PC? 1 month ago:
Speaking of spaceships…
Not the most practical PC engine model, because it lacked the extra oomph of the SuperGrafx and you couldn’t attach a CD-ROM² - but just look at it
- Comment on What is the best looking retro console or PC? 1 month ago:
PC Engine. Not only does it look like a prop from the set of TNG, but it is delightfully tiny. The cartridges are little cards that you slot in the front. There is literally nothing bad about a PC Engine. (Except for maybe that it’s only got one controller port)

- Comment on Favourite Metroid game? 2 months ago:
Gonna be controversial and say Metroid Prime Hunters… mainly because that’s the one I’ve spent the most time with.
Zero Mission takes a close second, though.
- Comment on Why is Pokémon Emerald so grindy? 2 months ago:
I’ve been playing the Paper Mario TTYD remake on Switch. Out of curiosity, I watched a little gameplay from the GameCube original… and glory be, does it look snappy. They definitely padded out the animations and stuff in the remake.
- Comment on Why is Pokémon Emerald so grindy? 2 months ago:
Could it be that you had a lot more time on your hands, and perhaps fewer games to play, as a kid? I know that aligns with my experience. (Then again, having not played gen 3 myself, it might not be that deep)
- Comment on Day 208 of posting a Daily Screenshot from the games I’ve been playing until I forget to post Screenshots 2 months ago:
When I did a legendary Combat Evolved solo run, there were one or two speedrunning strats I borrowed. Probably could do the same for H2 - one of the later levels, you can skip entirely if you do it right.

Halo 3 is a lot of fun, and it’s got some brilliant setpieces, but in terms of plot it’s always felt a bit of a rush job.
Even so, I love it to bits and it occupied many memorable evenings between 2008-2010. Definitely a much easier Legendary experience than Halo 2.
