- Comment on So, is the USA screwed? 1 day ago:
No, I don’t think so. Large portions of government like the CDC, USAID, FEMA and the IRS will take 20 years to rebuild, but the dialed in states like the West Coast will probably be largely fine. It’s just such an unnecessary waste of time, resources, and human lives.
Apparently some of us don’t remember our values unless they get their mouth curbstomped every 70 years and remember some serious pain and suffering. Then the majority of people start voting for people that weren’t dropped as babies and we will go back to a democracy again. Fuckin idiots.
In the meantime, enjoy the unencumbered spread of diseases like measles and HIV, preventable economic meltdowns from disassembling shit like the Fed, SEC and IRS and infrastructure stagnation due to gutting tax infrastructure and the firing of educated and experienced public workers that keep out road, bridges and internet working to say nothing of shit like sewers, water, power, rail, aviation, etc.
And just think, all of this rebuilding could have been prevented with one single vote for a normal candidate. We could have had 20 years of relative progress under our belt instead. 😊

You might like Last Train Home. Every soldier loss is permanent and there’s only so many you can find/rescue.
Based on true events, which is the most insane part. It’s kinda like frostpunk and an RTS game mixed together, which is very satisfying. Souls-like difficulty.

- Comment on What do you think of anarchism? 2 weeks ago:
It seems foolish and young to me. Same as libertarian rules or rule by religious doctrine. None of that shit works. Just shiny little playthings to keep people distracted from real and genuine problems that cause an existential threat to all species living on earth.

Not that I’m aware of.

Salt II was a great idea since the USSR collapsed and nobody was getting paid to guard the nukes sitting in cardboard boxes. But then Putin took over, and Luigi missed his cue, and Navalny got executed for returning to Russia.
WMDs are great and all, but the real race is probably towards ICBM warhead / missile shields now that everyone has WMDs.

Dragged, too.

I honestly have no idea. Interesting to think about, though.
- Comment on Technology for lab-grown eggs or sperm on brink of viability, UK fertility watchdog finds 3 weeks ago:
This honestly sounds really interesting for same-sex families. I hope this technology works out sooner rather than later. It would be really nice to potentially have a fully biological family like straight couples :)
(And it might eventually be way less expensive than adopting donor eggs/sperm)

Did you manage to extract it from the garbage disposal?
- Comment on Apple's controversial iPhone accessory may have been discontinued 2 months ago:
I recently bought a cheap phone after I broke my main one, because I needed something while my main one was being “repaired”. It turns out that this new cheap phone has a headphone jack AND a better stylus. It also had a solid 1000mah bigger battery and 10w extra of charging over my old flagship.
When the repair shop told me that the 20 cent ribbon connector couldn’t be replaced and that the repair would be $600 for a new screen and glass back, I decided to keep the cheap phone, which works damn well. It’s so nice to have a headphone jack to use again. All my other shit still has headphones jacks from my PC/laptop/SD to my car and stuff like kitchen stereos. I can use my Bluetooth earbuds, but they only have about 5 hours of playback and have a bad click in one bud after the first year of use.
I’m almost disappointed at how good this mid-range, $250 phone is compared to my $1,700 Samsung. Not going back after I got my data transferred to my new phone.
- Comment on What are your favorite 1000+ hour games? 2 months ago:
Elite Dangerous. Well over 1,000 hours, especially with friends to explore the black with. Hard to get into, but it has so much stuff to do. It made me passionate about space! (And it’s always fun reading articles about a far-flung star and thinking “hey! I’ve been there!”)
- Comment on Solar modules now selling for less than €0.06/W in Europe 2 months ago:
That is surprisingly expensive there. I think it’s like 12¢/kwh here (though we have block one and block two prices depending on how many kwh you use in a month, so it could be a higher rate if you are eating through tons of power).

We had great heat pumps in Montana already. And if it gets insanely (-38f) cold, there’s a resistive fallback mode. But I’d wager most places aren’t gonna get to 38 below.

- Comment on New car buyers driven to white or grey, with bright colours rarer than ever, data shows 4 months ago:
Never buy a grey car. We had one during our childhood, it got hit four times by idiot drivers not watching the road. Most were distracted by phones, food, etc. Silver blends into the road fairly well.
- Comment on Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 Dev Says Big Budget Games Are Failing in Part Because Teams Are Over-Scoping Their Projects 4 months ago:
Single player games with a good story and fun replayability are what I’m after. Or co-op. Occasionally, a fun multiplayer with a risky, innovative design like Lethal Company.
If a game requires me to collect 100 goddamn feathers, or press X 20 times to “survive” a heavily scripted encounter, you are doing your game wrong. Look at Black Mesa, look at Subnatica. Look at the games that took risks like Lethal Company or Elite Dangerous. You don’t have to appeal to everyone. You have to tell a story well, and the gameplay should be unique and interesting. Larian understood that with Divinity 2, and made improvements to both story and gameplay in BG3.

Looks pretty good, though the lack of particle effects is a bit odd. There are no decals from skidding tires either. Perhaps just alpha footage.
- Comment on do ribbed condoms feel better than smooth during anal? 4 months ago:
They don’t really make much of a difference, imo. There are wearable products out there that can add a texture difference, but they are incompatible with condoms if you are trying to reduce the risk of STDs.
That said, there are many ways to spice up sex in new and fun ways, even outside of condom choice :)
- Comment on American tourists visiting the EU, what do you think of it? 5 months ago:
Really depends on where you go! Certain parts feel safer, other parts feel less safe (or less comfortable to walk through safely). I’m not going to name names, as I’ve only been to various countries for a bit at a time, it would be unfair to pass judgement on entire nations based off a small experience.
The public transit is usually a cut above. Some of the driving feels dangerous. The food prices are somewhat expensive, but the food is generally less UPF-laced.
The more relaxed culture around nudity is refreshing. The lack of large, wild parks is a bit disappointing (or perhaps we missed these entirely), but various nations seem to be catching on to rewilding. The history is fascinating, and europeans generally think much more long-term than Americans, but the bad blood also runs deep, which is a little worrying. I’m glad the EU keeps everyone together.
Overall, it’s fun to visit, it generally feels safe, cultured, and the transit is very great, particularly the train systems. It has it’s problems just like other places in Africa, North America, and Central America.
If I had to live in a non-english speaking country, I’d probably pick Spain. Wonderful people, great transit, a relaxed culture, and excellent food, though France and Germany give Spain a run for their money on several of these points.

- Comment on BMW Adaptive Suspension Can Be Added via Subscription. Suspension As A Service (SAAS) 5 months ago:
Not downvoting you, but what on earth would need a SQL server to use suspension? It would be far too slow for real-time applications, and this isn’t a rolls royce engine on a jet generating 1tb of data a second when all sensors are active and logging.
This is a mall-mobile that someone will probably total in a power center parking lot in Arizona.
