Profit can be distorted based on how much employees are being paid.
They’re a “non-profit,” but their CEO makes millions of dollars per year. I’d say that’s a profit.
Believing otherwise is just falling for rhetoric that exists to take advantage of our naivete so people richer than us can be even richer.
Many of you will disagree with this (because you’re greedy consumerists), but their employees also typically don’t need to be paid nearly as much as they are. Their employees are also working to maximize profit, only from a different, less-effective angle.
Money brings out the worst in people. I don’t really value the input of people going to bat for the businessmen taking their money. Too often I see useful idiots proud to be ripped off and getting angry whenever someone points it out. It’s really the norm at this point, which is sad.

It’s definitely an issue with the culture among tech companies.
They’re all regurgitating each other’s shit, so whenever a bad idea gets passed around, they all jump on board.

Their revenue is fine.
They just waste it on unnecessary bullshit.
They’re a business, after all. They don’t care about their products. They care about doing the least among of work while making the most amount of money.
It’s not about keeping the lights on. It’s about living as luxurious a life as possible.

They will do whatever they believe will maximize profit.

I agree. AI would be way more useful if it gave some kind of indicator of accuracy, or even just saying “I don’t know.”
Right now, AI only doesn’t have an answer when the goons who programmed it told it not to give one.

That’s really stupid.

Yes, we all know the most successful economic endeavors are funded by taxpayers.
Just look at how Iceland has the cheapest electricity on the planet; it’s because they built their infrastructure using public money without an incentive to maximize profit.
- Comment on If CEOs think they can replace everyone with AI, why do they think Wall St. will need CEOs? 2 weeks ago:
If AI shows that the business will be more profitable without a human CEO, the owners will literally just ignore it.
- Comment on If CEOs think they can replace everyone with AI, why do they think Wall St. will need CEOs? 2 weeks ago:
They’re talking about replacing all their workers.
The owners will still be ghouls.

- Comment on Elon Musk is not as bad as he seems, he's playing a character. 2 weeks ago:
That’s a fair take. I don’t think he’s as bad in his head as people make him out to be.
He’s autistic and has to deal with a lot of influences around him without having the space to interpret them for what they are.
He’s operating on auto-pilot more often than not. Yeah he’s right, yeah he’s a piece of shit, but I’m not going to elevate him to the level of a ‘supervillain’ because I simply believe he doesn’t understand why he’s doing what he’s doing.

You get to notice things you didn’t notice before. It’s a lot easier for our brains to ‘zoom in’ and process minute details that we don’t perceive normally. Since lossless and lossy music is not the exact same audio vibrating the air, our brains are not going to interpret them exactly the same. This difference doesn’t matter to most and isn’t always perceivable, but it’s there.
One thing that stood out to me during an acid trip was how moving my phone affected the playback speed of my bluetooth speakers. Moving it further away caused the song to slow down slightly for a moment, moving it closer caused the song to speed up slightly. You can imagine that this is because of some kind of ‘space invaders’ effect, where my phone is sending out signals at a constant rate and adjusting the distance to the receiver causes those signals to be received faster or slower, temporarily.

I’d say it’s definitely worth it.
Our brains shouldn’t have to work harder to listen to lossy music, which is what happens even if you can’t reliably perceive it.
Listening to music on acid (a lot) has really shaped my views of it and how even the most minor things can have a major impact on the final experience.
