yeah 100% agree. we have a saying in Switzerland (probably Germanic in general), “being dumb is one thing, staying dumb is another”. maybe not the perfect thing to draw upon but the syntax is the same 😂
- Comment on Lemmy is a tech literate echo chamber 1 week ago:
yeah fully agree. with that logic though there shouldn’t be any excuses for people not to be able to join Lemmy because its “too technical”. following instructions and taking the initiative of following / learning about your curiosities are two separate things.

america is the only country that is except from Swiss banking privacy laws. they strong armed us with something (still dunno until today what exactly) to have it removed for american citizens.
- Comment on Switzerland plans surveillance worse than US 2 weeks ago:
they’ve been threatening this for year to keep suckling at the tit of governmental subsidies to make Switzerland look more attractive for investors with them being here. I doubt they’ll follow through.
- Comment on Switzerland plans surveillance worse than US 2 weeks ago:
what covid response? our government simply played on “eigenverantwortung” (personal responsibility). in a country with one of the highest education levels it wasn’t difficult to keep a distance of 2 meters during the peak of the pandemic unless you’re surrounding yourself with naive people. I was able to go swimming in the lake in the summer, and skiing in the winter while Italy, France and Austria had this banned. weird to think about it but I honestly had a pretty fun time during covid and made some of the best friends to date during it. hell, we even had music festivals and our numbers were not horrible. I think you’re thinking of Sweden. happens a lot.

Certainly! Here’s a concise summary of the article “AI is rotting your brain and making you stupid” by Rich Haridy, published on May 25, 2025:
- AI tools may reduce critical thinking by doing tasks for us.
- Relying on AI can lead to "cognitive offloading."
- This may harm creativity and problem-solving skills.
- The author shares personal concerns from tech use.
- Suggests using AI mindfully to avoid mental decline. Let me know if there’s anything else I can help you with!

Poah, ok let’s do this:
- reading a book
- interacting with your smartphone
- using the fridge
- standing in an elevator
- street signs
- restaurant menus
- tapping someone on the shoulder (vertical not horizontal interaction)
- looking at paintings
- standing in line
- observing a statue
- interacting with your closet
- looking someone up and down
- etc, etc, etc
Just some I could come up with on the fly
- Comment on Funny how we see the world in landscape, but live it mostly in portrait. 2 months ago:
Yes - but have you been on your smartphone lately? Have you read a book? Looked in the mirror? Interacted with your vertical (hopefully not too horizontal) girlfriend / boyfriend? Sometimes I feel like the human eye is too limited upwards / downwards.

I’ve learnt this the hard way, but ALWAYS (LITERALLY FUCKING ALWAYS) assume you’re the smartest in the room. People are dumb as fuck on average.

meaning they had to have a concept of inside and ventilation, which is wild. how else would they have invented in vent?

We need you Rowan Atkinson.

There’s never the perfect moment, there will always be one more post, or picture, or question you need to post on either Instagram or Reddit. It felt like an addiction for me. When I deleted IG three years ago, I didn’t know what to do with my time for weeks. I started taking up old hobbies and reading books again. I never looked back.
Reddit was harder for me too, I was just getting feeds on things I was really interested in, whilst exchanging ideas with others. I like Lemmy because of it’s not as large user base - less distractions.
Anyways, welcome to the Fediverse! It’ll take some adjusting at first, but guarantee you’ll overcome it!
