I feel like transparent and open algorithms should be the way to go. For example, in the Lemmy documentation, I can find the exact math that is used to rank posts in
Scaled
sorting.Perhaps an even better aporoach may lie in letting the users customize the factors determining ranking and how much they affect it.

I got the reference, but didn’t feel the need to point it out, partly because I felt it was obvious. I’m assuming there were many people that, like me, understood it and moved on.

AI is not just LLMs. I’m very critical of the LLM craze. I have a lot of hope about AIs.

You’re facing Darth Vader, and she got turned off by that!? Definitely a red flag.

I may not be the Fediverse Chick, but if it helps, I can DM you.
- Comment on [deleted] 4 weeks ago:
Unfortunately, these images are almost certainly stolen. I don’t imagine many people would consent to their photos being used in a spam attack.
That said, in the image you can see a bong, and from her face you can tell that she’s high. So these are probably images/frames from a video that was taken to commemorate this person trying weed.
- Comment on [deleted] 4 weeks ago:
I doubt it, very little people would use their own image in a spam attack.
- Comment on [deleted] 4 weeks ago:
I’d prefer if you keep her blocked and don’t initiate communication with my girlfriend…
on a serious note
I usually just ignore these DMs and don’t bother to block them because the person(s) behind the account just create more. Also, the spam seems harmless and quite amusing.

- Comment on [deleted] 4 weeks ago:
pedantic
“Nicole” is (likely) a fabricated character. The character is (likely) different from the image, although the image is commonly associated with the character in our minds. The image is an unaware person smoking weed. However, the character itself can said to be a spammer. Thus, Nicole is indeed a spammer. However, the person in the image is not a spammer. The image and the character are seperate, even though one is a symbol for the other.

She’s already a meme. Maybe in 20 years when the fediverse is popular, this will be a thing only us “old timers” know.
I sound like a grandpa now…
